Ruger Red Label issues?

I may be acquiring a Ruger Red Label O/U shotgun, but I remember a buddy had trouble on a duck hunting outing where the barrel selector got stuck so he ended up with a single shot . Funny thing, something jammed in my A5 that trip too so we were both shooting single shot guns.

Anyway, I hear there are issues with the safety coming on between shots with the two barrels on the Ruger.

Is that true?

I had a 20 ga. Red Label that I used extensively for upland game and a few rounds of skeet/trap practice prior to hunting season. In the 20+ years I had it, it worked flawlessly.

I had one in 12ga, that I used for clays, and pheasant hunting. Very reliable, strong well built gun. Never had a single issue with it in any respect. Put about 6-7000 rds through it. The only reason I sold it is I was made an offer I couldn't refuse.

In my experiences around gun clubs I have never heard of this Ruger barrel selector issue of which your asking. I suspect it is an isolated case that someone has made wild story about that has been blown out of proportion as it has been retold.

I know of one Red Label in 12 gauge that had the issue of the safety coming on from the recoil of the first shot. I did not get a chance to look at it, but I believe that it was a "detent" issue.

I lucked out and picked up a new in the box but older blued model, in 20ga a while back.

I did so with the objective being of having a second shotgun for upland birds and one I could use when some of our 'wet coast sunshine' happens to be coming down. That way I could ;)'baby' my little English SxS. Along the lines of what others have already stated, it's never missed a beat, no problems.
