Ruger Red label where are they?

Hi there

A friend of mine is selling his newish Ruger Redlabel in 12 ga. He bought it used and being a one gun kind of guy he got a new semi and is letting the redlabel go. I gave it a try and like it, so to be sure he will lend it to me for the month to make sure before i buy. Hes a good friend and knows how well i care for guns. Its a good fit for me and has a nice wide rib looks good.

The only thing im wondering is how come i cant seem to find anywhere that sells them new? Or see any of them at the gun club. Does the auto safety drive everyone nuts? It seems to be a great quality gun and i quickly got over the safety issue.

Do you have one of these or why wouldnt you?

As for the barrel lenghts they are 30" with an excelent porting job.

I've got one. Bought one in 20ga. when they first came out and it is a fantastic grouse gun (and I prefer the classic doubles ). Every once in a while I think about selling it now that I no longer have gun dogs and I just can't do it. I suspect others feel the same way as well.

I have seen several for sale new in catalogs ( I think Russells and WSS) and can't believe how much they have gone up in price as mine was $650 new.

if you do not like the Ruger Red label 12gauge just let me know I will buy it,I have been looking for another one for almost 2 years now.How long are the
barrels.
They are a outstanding gun with no major issues that I have found.
 
I personally have never shot one, but I know a couple of different guys that have them. They seem to like them and I see them using them quite often, so I don't think they have any issues/problems with them. I like the looks of them and they seem to fit me well, I would have no hesitation to buy one if I could find it in the configuration I want..either 20 or 28 gauge, with 26" or 28" barrels with screw in chokes.
 
Ruger still makes them and I believe Gobles carries them. They are a very well made over/under. They tend to have a bit of recoil but the one you have being ported may just help solve some of that issue. I have a friend who had one in a 20ga. The first ones that came out. He quit hunting a few years ago and offered it to me for a steal of a deal. I guess in hindsight I should have grabbed it by I dont really have need for a 20 ga. I think if the one you are looking at fits and you can afford it why wait? You can't go wrong. Here is the link to Ruger.

Sako - Out of curiosity, have you perhaps stumbled someplace across a batch from previous production? :) I wasn't aware that Ruger had resumed production of the GL.

I waited for a long time to get my Ruger Red Label. When I finally could afford it I got it from my local sporting goods store, special order. I had watched for used for a long time. They don't come up very often. I have heard reports about heavy recoil but I have never noticed it recoiing any worse than my Wingmaster. My sons and I have put hundreds of rounds through it at the trap range and on the first outing for ducks with my hunting buds it brought down the first mallard of the year and many more after that. I love the shorter barrel because it swings so fast. It did have issues with ejecting the lower fired hull and I had to send it back to Ruger but it works very well now. I put on a Browning fibre optic sight that works much better in the early morning.
I would like to try and put a synthetic stock on it for duck hunting because I am paranoid about damaging the wood. It is really nice. It won't leave my hands until I'm gone, that's for sure.
 
I picked up the Red label today and it is built just as well as my other rugers thats for sure. Nice tight lock up, easy opening with a resounding clack, very clean fitting made of excelent materials. The only things i didnt like is the hard rubber recoil pad, also the trigger pull is a bit long almost like a 2 stage with a weak return spring to boot and the forestock is a little narrow. These are just first impressions though.

So out to the range it went, im not a great trap shooter but was able to score two conceutive 19s, It pointed naturally with a decent ballance. It shot a little low but thats to be expected with the field stock. Will try some skeet this saturday before i make any real decisions with it.

Its definatly a great gun but i think leaving more to desire, condition wise there are a few scuffs here and there but still VG to say the least.

Well ive got it for a month so will let you know what i do later. Right now my shooter is a rem 1100 so im comparing it to that.

Thanks for your posts and giving me a better sense of value hes looking for 1500 but i think at that price i may be better with a used citori or something italian.
I will make a reasonable offer though.

Would not sell mine, ever! Had to wait forever to find one gently used since they are no longer in production.

I've had mine for almost 10 years, don't use it much, but then I'm not a duck hunter nor skeet shooter, but the deal was too good to pass up. Dangle anything newish and shiny in front of a true gun nut...:p
I recently picked up some sets of L'il Skeeter gauge reducers (20, 28 and 410) and plan on using them for upland hunting. I've thought about selling it from time to time, but I just can't seem to justify it's absence. This one is the 26 inch 12 gauge with screw-in chokes. Really nice shotgun and well made.
 
The skeet range went over really well. Not being much of a skeet shooter, sure i missed a lot of them but everynow and then had a couple of really good breaks. I also brought a long my 1100 which jammed up on me twice, so did another fellows. So I am really leaning towards the Redlabel now. Im also talking him down a bit on the price too so If all goes well it will be mine by weeks end. Will also have a 2 3/4 1100 for sale in VG condition with 28 inch fixed mod choke. Only problem is the forestock is cracked so you can see a bit of JB weld on it. Any thoughts on value?

The shell would hang up and would not eject all the way. I took it apart when i got home and found the exhaust ports full of crud and it to be quite dirty. Think it was a problem of not being clean.

Thanks for all your tips and information guys. It has certanly helped me make an informed decision. I think i will be very happy with my soon to be mine
