The S&W Model 25 is a good choice. There was a series of this gun some time ago that was chambered in .45ACP as well, possibly M25-3. Rare but available, moon clips I expect. This is a steel gun the Model 625 is stainless steel. I thought about this for a while but based on my other S&Ws I bought a Freedom Arms Model 83. This is an expensive gun but almost the best quality you can buy for reasonable money. Once you shoot a FA the others just don't impress. This gun allows me to shoot .454 and .45 Colt. I could get a cylinder for .45ACP if I wanted and may do that at some point. The FA has a lifetime warrantee as well in the Premium version for the origional owner. These guns do come up for sale from time to time and you could save a thousand pretty easy.
Of all the calibers I shoot, and that is all the common handgun calibers, I especially like the .45 Colt than the .45ACP. I prefer longer bbls. 6 inch or longer is good for me. I had a 4 5/8 inch and didn't like it, I have a 5 inch and it is OK. Moon clips are a PITA, you need a tool to de-moonclip the rounds for sure. Loading isn't that hard. I have the solid moonclips, they are stiff but better I think. You can get moonclips at Brownells.
