I recently acquired a Ruger Redhawk in excellent condition. So.......I took it apart to clean it and put a lighter hammer spring in it and now I can't get it put back together so it will function properly (worked on it for the last 2+ hours!).:bangHead: :bangHead: :bangHead:

It will only work (in double or single action) every once in a while when the trigger is pulled.

It has to be something in the trigger group because when I put the cylinder and trigger group in it I can't pull the trigger, re-set the trigger, pull the trigger, re-set the trigger, etc. with even a hint of regularity.

Any ideas guys?

While we're at it, does anyone have an e-mail address for Ruger?

Thanks!:)

I bet you are sweating. I've done the same with other firearms and it is frightening and worrying. I once put a spent casing (all the ammo I had at the time) in my first pistol, a Glock 17. It got stuck and the slide was not moving. It was rock solid stuck fast. I called the Police Department in the morning to see if the Armourer there would help (my cousin is with the department) but he was away on leave.
Finally I managed to get the casing out and boy was I relieved!

When I bought a 1911A1 I field stripped it and couldn't get it back together. I telephoned the man I bught it from (Roger Katenko) and he kindly talked me through it. I shot the recoil spring at my sister's window twice before I got it back in and the slide aligned with the round notch. Again, was I relieved and I was thinking Roger was the greatest guy in the world at that point.

Someone will post some advice. I know nothing abut the Rugers or revolvers. Hang in there and take a deep breath. The problem will be solved, just at a time you will have no control over. All will be worked out in the end, brother.

Sheeesh! Just send it to me Bill. I'll look after it.:bsFlag: Seriously, you have my sympathy, having "been there, done that".
My favorite gunsmith tells me nearly everybody has a "story" when this happens. Usually it's along the lines of "my kid took it apart". Now I just tell him it's been buggered since I got it back from him last time....even if he's never seen it.:D :D :D
Good luck friend, and I hope someone has good advice rather than more of this baloney.

Put it away in the safe, forget about it until the weekend; then reassemble it saturday morning! I bet that it will be fine!!:D

Hey!! Works for me!!:D:D

Hey!! Works for me!!:D:D

That's exactly what I'm going to do.

It's nothing major I'm sure, just me missing some little thing.

I owned a transmission shop for twenty years, "My kid took it apart, I can put it back together, but I just don't have time." Lying bastard, I've seen your kid, he couldn't get it apart... Just put it aside till Monday,, pieces will fit better!!! We all been there,, more effort,, more stress,, nothing fits,,;) some guys have this problem with erections [apparently] so just chill out and look at it later, not like the HUN IS AT THE GATE!!! You'll find things will fit, less stress and the achievement will be worth the wait. Take momma out for dinner and have a good weekend..:bigHug:

Two words... digital photographs. Helps keep order and placement in a rebuild for those things that don't come with manuals.

I haven't tried it again yet but may tackle it tonight. I have the factory manual and I know how to take it apart and put it back together but I can't seem to get it to function properly.

Well guys I got her back together and working 100% in about 10 minutes this morning!:dancingbanana: :dancingbanana: :dancingbanana:

Rob (rodagra) sent me an e-mail suggesting it was a spring problem soI looked the trigger group over and noticed that the pawl plunger & spring must have flown out somewhere along the way. I was fortunate enough to find it on the floor under the bench after a brief search.

Thanks again Rob!

Now if I can just get out to the range to try her out sometime this week!

Congrats on the rebuild.

Wish I had room/time/money to build a 'clean room'... something with plain white walls and white floor... sealed up and completely bare. Those damn little springs etc wouldn't get away then! (I have a whole family of goblins in my shop... they hide EVERYTHING)

For fun,
a)drop a couple dozen spent large primers on a dirty shop floor
b)drop the little cup thingy that comes at the end of a LEE ramprime.
c)Spend the next three weeks trying to find it.
d)Get therapy cuz everytime you think you got it... "awe ####, just an old primer".:D

just a suggestion- i find a lot of things with a MAGNET- from a shag rug no less- got lots from repairing microwave ovens

There you are, I knew that you could do it, with a little help from your friends!:D

"...can be had for cheap on ebay..." E-bay is anti-firearm ownership. Why support them?
Go here for a free .pdf manual. http://stevespages.com/page7b.htm

Most of the things I have ordered from Ebay have been firearms related in one way or another, allot of which I could not get or find in Canuckstan. But thanks for your advice

BTW I posted the PDF file earlier :)
