Ruger S/A or Uberti S/A???

Howdy,

Looking for some advice on a S/A revolver. Been looking into a single action .357 for a couple years now, and through my research it's seem to come down to 3-4 options. * Edit: Guess I should add that I would just be doing general range shooting, and no competition. My criteria is:

a) Must be .357
b) Must be either blued or case hardened finish( no nickle or stainless)
c) Minimum barrel 5"

The options I have been able to come across are:

1. Ruger new model blackhawk,6.5" barrel
2. Ruger Vaquero 5.5"
3. Uberti Cattleman 5.5"
4. Taylor & Co.


What are your thoughts on all of these? I would be looking to stay around the 1k mark. I initially was leaning towards an option from Ruger (being the Ruger fanboy that I am) but after seeing some not so great reviews I am not sure what to think. Any input on these wheel guns positive and negative would be much appreciated!!

Authenticity and looks = uberti or taylors and company (they are both made by uberti)
 
I have owned a:

Uberti El Patron 45 Colt
Ruger Vaquero Stainless 357 (4 5/8")
Ruger Bisley Vaquero 357
Ruger Bisley Vaquero 45 Colt

Where to start. First one was the Vaquero; it hit low but shot well after a spring kit. Got rid of it and got the Bisley 357; it shoots low too (for everyone that tries it), but I like the ergonomics of it better than the standard vaquero (needed a spring kit too). Wanted a 45 so I got the El Patron (can get it in 357 too). Really nice gun, but I liked the Bisley config (hit to point of aim almost perfect). Was at a gun shop and they had a the used Bisley vaquero in 45 Colt; buddy was drooling over the El Patron so I sold it to him and bought the Ruger for a matching look in my holsters. Needed a spring kit to have as nice a trigger as the El Patron (see a pattern?), but like the wider Ruger trigger once it was done. Oh, the Ruger 45 shoots to POA about perfect.

I have shot the Blackhawks and they are a nice gun. If you get a 9mm/357 convertible, the 9mm is a smaller diameter and they USUALLY (not always) are not as accurate as the 38/357. Nice thing is the adjustable sights; if period correct does not matter, that is definitely what I would be looking at.

It's not a huge deal to me. As long as its single action and not shiny im happy lol.
 
If you're not doing Cowboy action, then buy the Ruger flat top "med frame" Blackhawk

Uberti is ok but their quality control is meh, Ruger is a much better revolver.
 
There is the Piatta also, but the black hawk is you just want a nice single action, then you have to find a single six and them a BK in 44 and or 45 and you are good .Any one that thinks they will just buy one gun is in the wrong place. Was there not just a B.K. on the EE?
P.S. Just looked at your feed back score, so you must have more than one gun;)

Haha yep i know it's going to be a slippery slope once i get my first S/A. Gunna go with the Ruger and tumble down the rabbit hole shortly after im guessing lol. Thanks for the input!

If the projectile is undersized it will be less accurate and wear the bore faster from gas wash.
