Ruger Scout 308 vs 450 - Deer Rifle

Federal PowerShok 150gr 308 has a box sticker of
2134 ft pounds and 2532 FPS at 100 yards

I would guess these numbers were tested with a longer barrel.
What would be a guess on numbers from a 16.5”

And more importantly at 100 -200yards is the reduced velocity/energy going to even make a difference on a deer.

I'd say 2550-2650 from a 16" brl. If you're a bit concerned about downrange velocity/expansion/energy, choose a more aerodynamic bullet. This one would be good to try in a 308 for deer :

It's rated at 3000 fps from a 24" barrel, should be around 2700 from a short barrel. A 150gr 30 cal @ 2700 fps was the original 30-06 loading specs, it will kill

If hunting larger game, the Hornady Superformance 150gr CX copper would be good

With the speeds you were getting from 125 and 130 grain bullets I'd like to see how the Barnes 130gr TTSX factory ammo does.

but what if it only does 2499 fps? hahaha
