Ruger Scout...the good, bad and the ugly

Are you slow?

Please show me where else you can get a stainless steel rifle with a beautiful laminated stock in a large calibre for $600.

With a detachable 10 round mag and the option for forward or standard scope mounts, with good irons included all at that price in addition to your points.

The mount is quick release, about 5 seconds to put on or take off.

I wanted the Ruger for (1) the backup ghost ring sights, (2) 10 round magazine, (3) short STAINLESS barrel, (4) the included DURABLE laminate stock and (4) the way it is balanced when I hold it. I have other 'pretty' guns, my Ruger is the tractor. I would grab it over other rifles if I could only carry one.

For ME - this setup so far makes me very happy right now.

i love that mount! i was looking at the xs sights rail, but the rear sight on the GSR is really nice. it would be a shame to replace it. i will be picking one of those canti's up for sure. thanks for sharing!

The Shooting Edge should have one or two in stock of the AD Cantilevered mount.

Good- Solid well made gun. Nice iron sights. 10+ round capacity is cool(ish). Looks good esp in black with flash hider. 308 is a great caliber. Adjustable LOP is a good idea.

Bad-Rattly mag. The fact that the rifle is technically a controlled round feed but the mag completely disallows the advantages of it. Can't top feed mag. Rifle itself is too heavy for it's intended purpose. Included rings don't allow for ''scout'' style mounting. (why not weaver/pic rings instead?)

Ugly- The 10 round mag, because it is.

Eat some more cherios... I just handled one and couldn't believe how lite it felt.

Weights less than Lee Enfield No5 without the mags

The Ruger Scout ( 7.052 ) without a mag weights less than a Lee Enfield No 5 (7.094 lbs), so I don't see how it can be to heavy. The steel 10 round mag for the Ruger weights 8.2 ozs where as the Lee Enfield weights 5.5 ozs. The option however exists of using the polymer ones which are much lighter.

After some filtering this was a pretty good review of the Scout. Thanks!

After hadling a left hand one I have a RH one coming in to the Edmonton Wholesale sports.

Personally I like a bit of weight to my guns. I am still upset from when the military switched from the FN to the AR.

Where in the Unholy Balls do you people keep finding LH versions of the Ruger Scout? Do you vaporise them afterwards, or simply throw them down random wells?

Seriously, dish. I cannot find one.

I buy every left hand gun I can find....

Then throw them all into a smelter to be remade into proper right handed guns.

I have a vortex on mine right now. A really weird choice, I know... but it is an incredibly fast shooting 1-6 power optic, with a ballistic drop reticle for rapid shots to 500 yards without adjusting the zero. I love it.

That scope-setup looks great :yingyang: , but does anyone use an LER/IER "scout" scope ?.......

So far - yep. Haven't had a big bump or drop or similar to knock the scope, but the AD mount goes back on pretty exact tight.

**note though, I wouldn't expect it to be zero'd again or rely on that, the removable mount is if the scope goes out of sight - I can remove it FAST to go to irons for a shot.

Coho,
Is it easy to remove and remount the peep without losing zero?
