Ruger Security SIX- Scratched rear site

Hi I just PU a nice Ruger SS, only one small problem. There is a fairly large scratch on the rear sight, right inline with the sight picture. Makes for very hard sighting. I tried bluing it-didn't work! Does anyone have any ideas?

Try some Birchwood Casey Sight black, I believe it's called.

Hi Thanks for reply. I tried some G96 Gun Blue Cream but couldn't get it to stick. Is the Birchwood Casey similar?

Black felt pen or paint and small brush most sights a painted and baked

Can you not reverse the sight on those? I know with some revolver adjustable sights you can, giving you the option of a white outline or just black picture.

You could try smoking it.... google "blackening sights"

Here's one shooters tip for soot blackening,

In a pinch i used to carry a tiny vial of olive oil and a piece of parer towel or a patch in my box. Dip the patch/paper, whatever in the olive oli and light it. It produces a pretty good black smoke.

I use a gunsmoke carbide lamp and will do so until I get around to getting a Ray-Vin.

The spray stuff isn't really as good as smoke. The USAMU guys call it 'sight grey'.
