AR variant?

To clarify, the SR 7.62 was a piston operated semi auto that was discontinued and that's the one showing as prohib in Armapytics. The new SFAR is a gas operated semi chambered in .308 and smaller than most .308 semi auto modern sporting rifles. I don't think there's an entry for it in Armalytics yet.

I'm confused. Are you saying there are two SR 7.62's, one prohibited and one not on the market yet?

The new one is not called the SR 7.62, it's called the SFAR. Two different rifles by Ruger. The discontinued SR 7.62 is currently prohib while the SFAR is so new that it hasn't yet been classified or put on a ban list.

Thanks, but it is looking very AR10-ish...we need PP in office.

it's actually a mini action (556, x39, grendel, etc.) that has an oversized barrel extension and bolt head to handle the pressure of the 308. something that precision shooters have been building for a while.

receiver has to be a bit longer than an ar15 to fit the 1/2" longer 308 round, but is it not as big as an ar10 (ie, with longer bolt carrier, etc) so shouldn't trigger any of the rcmp tests for prohib. hopefully a very viable import.

I thought maybe Ruger screwed us by using the wrong terms in their marketing but I can't find anything outright saying AR or whatever. Who knows maybe if the stars align they'd let it through?

SFAR Also it's basically identical to all the now Prohib ARs in EVERY meaningful way.

The AR stands for autoloading rifle so I'm not sure that's the death knell. I don't expect it to get through but if things were truly fair it should be allowed despite what's on the OIC. Other black guns have popped up so the hard stop hasn't happened yet. The evergreen BS would capture it of course, when and if that comes through.
