I am a great fan of single shot rifles. Browning, Ubertis, Remington, especially Rugers and some others. I have been shooting them for about 20 years now and many of them in many chamberings. I have taken grizzly with them and numerous moose and other big game. Anyone else loving these things and have some good pictures. I will post pics when I get a chance. I am always looking for more.
I currently have;
Ruger #3s in .22 K-Hornet and .45/70.
Ruger #1s in .500 Buhmiller and .416 Rigby.
Remington rolling blocks in .45/70x4, .50/70.
Browning 78 in .25/06.
Rield in .577 Nitro Express.
.577 Snider x lots.
Martini .557/450.
Stevens Favorites in .32RF and .38spcl, .44-40
Numerous .22s in a few makes and configurations.
I have had;
Brownings in .45/70, .50Alaskan, 6mm
NEFs in .45/70 X ?
Ruger #3s in .45/70 x4.
Ruger #1s in, 7mm mag, 7x57, .270, .308, .45/70x?, .458x3, .460Wby, .50/140, .416Rigbyx2
H&K 12ga.
And likely many more I forget. I am now planning a few more project singles. A .500 S&W carbine or .50/70 carbine and a .454 or .45 Colt carbine version. And one more heavy .50 likely. Anyone else with some of these in the works or interesting calibers or configurations? Also looking for a Martini in .303 Brit or another .577/450.

I too have been bitten by the single shot bug, but have only 2 at this point a Uberti Hi-wall in .45-70 and a #3 in .45-70, they have to be my 2 favourite long guns. I am contemplating re-barrelling the #3 to a 24-28" half octagon half round barrel chambered for .45-90. The original barrel on the ruger has some nasty pitting down one side but it still shoots fine. I have taken the majority of my big game with the #3.

I was very fond of my #1 .416 Rigby. It turned out not to be the answer to the question I was asking, and I have not replaced it. "Someday" I will start a collection of Ruger #1's in the big bore calibers which interest me.

Just the one right now ... a "Medium Sporter" in 45-70, wearing a Leupold
VXII in 2-7x. Will keep them inside an inch at 100. Really wished it was just a little heavier, maybe with a 24" barrel like the "Tropicals" . ( and never did like that Alex Henry style forend ! )

I've only had 1 Ruger #1 (a Sporter in 7mm Rem Mag) and it was one of the finest looking, handling and shooting rifles I've ever had. Now that I've gotten the "honeymoon" period out of the way and have had a few months to think it over, I've decided to indulge my "fetish" as you call it. ;)

I'm not a pack rat or collector of anything but I can truly appreciate an assortment of #1's...or whatever single shots float your boat. You have a fine looking collection Casull. :cool:

Single shot rifles - They're a good obsession. :)

Mine include a Browning High Wall in 45-70, one in 7mm Rem Mag and one in .270 Win. A Low Wall in .221 Fireball, Ruger Number 1's in 7x57 (No. 1 International), 6mm Rem (No. 1B), 30-06 (No. 1A) and 45-70 (No. 1A), Sharps 75 (45-70) - They're all very accurate and fun to shoot.

The Number 1's in 45-70 are a lot more forgiving to shoot than the Number 3's, but there's something about the single shot falling block rifle that makes it very satisfying to shoot.

I've only got one at the moment, a first year production "pre-prefix" B model, serial number 12XX. I had Bill Leeper rebarrel it with a Pac-Nor 3-groove barrel in 270 Weatherby.

It's a nice rifle, that is if you like 130 grain triple shocks at 3500 fps and 1/2" accuracy! :D Show me a better long-range deer rifle and you can hit me with it.

Some fetish? Not one pic posted here? How am I supposed to get excited come on where's the pics?

edit: Good on you now it's a real fetish thread that some pics have been added.

Buy mine!!! I know Cheap shot :(

They are nice pieces, sometimes too nice to carry afield. I wanted that stainless 45-70 that hithere was selling some time back SOOOOOO bad, the only thing stopping me was MONEY!!!!! :runaway:

I like the break-action single shots (like NEF/H&R or TC) over the ruger style. I'm still working on getting a 500S&W in an NEF handi imported from the States...

I have one myself...Ruger #1 Varmit in the 22-250. Love the gun for coyotes, nice to shoot and great wood on it.

I've got the same thing. Oh, I've made mention of it in another thread/forum, but in a past issue of Rifle, there is a good article, Shooting & Tuning The Ruger # 1. Used some of the info suggestions on mine and it definately helps tighten the group. If you're interested in the article, send me a PM.

I've always liked them..Just never enough to buy one. Sorta like a Marlin Guide Gun.

If I bought one, it woudl be either chambered for somethign LARGE or go the route RickF did- a speedy cartridge with a longish barrel for deer.:)

I have owned a few over the years but here is what is left :D
Fergason 22 K -hornet
Ruger #1 30-06
:: #1 243
Ruger #3 22 Hornet.
& I just Sold a NEF Youth in 22 Hornet.Buddy wanted it for his 10 year old son.DAN>>>:D
