I have decided that I want my first handgun to be a Ruger Single Six as I love the single action revolvers and I love the price of .22LR ammo even more:) and Ruger has gained my love from my awsome 10/22. I am wondering tho if I use the .22mag clyinder if I can shoot .22LR outta it? 9 times outta 10 I will be shooting normal .22LR ammo but it will be cool/handy if I could shoot something with a bit more power behind it without changing anything on the gun. Besides that question any thoughts/opions on the Ruger Single Six?

From the Wikipedia article on .22 cartridges.

The .22 Winchester RimFire, also called .22 WRF, and later .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire, also called .22 Magnum or .22 WMR, use cases different from the .22 LR. The .22 WRF and .22 WMR have a significant taper and does not use a heeled bullet. While .22 WRF may be fired in a .22 WMR, firing a .22 S, L or LR in a .22 WMR firearm will likely result in gas leakage at the breech and may cause a potentially dangerous case rupture. Such use always will result in bullet metal fouling in the .22 WMR chamber throat and degraded accuracy with the smaller rounds.

If you want something a bit lighter than the WMR loads, you can shoot WRF out of the WMR cylinder with no problems. Winchester still makes ammo. My local gunshop stocks it and IIRC it's about $8 for a box of 50. More than LR, but still cheaper than WMR.

single six

It takes very little to swap cylinders. Why would you use one not matched to the ammo?

It takes like 5 seconds to change cylinders. With mine I take both cylinders out and load 6 22lr and 6 22mag. when i am done empty cyls and repeat as many times as you have ammo for.
It sounds like until angels doesn't realize that with almost all single six's you get both cylinders

If you can, try one out for size - you may not like the ergos.

I'll state the obvious - they're slow. But to some, loading and unloading is half the fun.

That being said, if I could carry in the bush while hunting with a rifle or shotgun, it would be my RSS in stainless. :)

Well the other day I was shooting a Rossi .22 revolver, it was double action but I was shooting it in single and Loved it and the ergos were simluar the the Ruger Single Six. I eventually want more handguns, a G17, 1911 and .357mag but I like the whole being able to make a $30 of 525 round box of .22s last for hours with the Ruger Single Six, I will def be able to get alot of trigger time on it

I have a Ruger single-six, and I love it! I was surprised how ammo sensitive it is though, shooting sme LR ammo very well indeed, and spraying some around quite a bit. But with ammo it likes, it is plenty accurate, and the WMR option works well when you want a bit more power. Regards, Eagleye.

Another fan of the Ruger Single-Six. Mine's the blued 4 5/8" bbl version and when you're shooting .22WMR's indoors with subdued lighting, the blue halo is awesome. It's also a lot of fun even with .22 shorts.
