Ruger SP 101 .22 Cal Revolver - My baby Arrived! (Lots of Pics!)

Very Nice!! Hope you never lose that (5yr old boy on Christmas morning) feeling that you must have today!!! I felt that way when I got my Ruger GP 100 SS 6" .357 Enjoy

That SP101 .357 has to be the absolute best configuration .357 available in Canada right now.
So much want in this thread.

If Ruger puts out an Alaskan 4.2" I solemnly swear to own the entire set; SP101 in .22lr, sp101 in .357Mag and the Alaskan in .44Mag.

I own a S&W629 4.2", but having seen these 2 specimens in pictures only, I can safely say I am an official Ruger fan.
There aren't even drag marks on those cylinders! Ruger clearly knows how to still make revolvers, well.

Sorry Guys! Back up north working. Yes I had it out! No time for a full range report with pics but I will give you my general impressions:

Shot about 100 rounds. all I have to say is: FUN. It is as accurate as I expected, I am the first to admit I am not the best pistol shot. No felt recoil to speak of. Shooting .22 shorts out of it is fun as they are quite quiet.

The only thing that has disappointed me is the strength of the trigger pull. I don't mind it, but my wife commented that it is "to hard" to pull. She much preferred shooting it in single action mode. I know a rimfire revolver needs the hammer to give a good wallop on to the primer so I knew it would be a strong pull going in, but even so it surprised me. That said, other male shooters I let try it at the range loved it.

It is great fun for the experienced shooter and I got a speed bees re loader and four place reloading block for it so that should be a blast.

I would not recommend it as a first gun or one to introduce new shooters to shooting due to the strong trigger pull. I still think the best gun for a new shooter is a 10/22. I am interested in the M&P 22 to pick up as a wifey favorite or the new shooter gun. I have been trying to take out everyone I meet or get to know out shooting. I especially enjoy getting people who are unaware or indifferent to our gun laws out shooting restricted guns.

All in all I am very happy with it and enjoy it thoroughly! It is tight in all the right places and smooth moving in all the others. I think I will do the wolf spring mod and see what happens with the trigger pull.

When I am home next in a month or so I will be sure to do a full review with pics at the range.

Official range report: Pull trigger, gun goes bang every time, pop can rolls further away, clay pigeon breaks, hole appears in the 10 ring of the target. Repeat

Bob

Holy thread resurrection batman!

I guess I never did do a full "official" range report!!!!

I'll just say this: It is funner every time I take it out! It is definintly a "Bring every time" gun for my range visits. The speedbees speed loader and loading block were a great buy(be sure to get the 8 shot .22 SP101 and not the older 6 shot). Rapid fire revolver hahahaaaaaa.

Best part: dirt cheap to shoot

Fun fact: It shoots every kind of ammo I have put through it! and........you can shoot 22 shorts out of it too!

I'm not gonna lie I re-read this thread after finally being able to order my own SP101 on thursday. Should be here within the next week or two depending on CFO.

Did you end up installing wolf springs? How did you find them? I'm hoping my sp101 is like my GP100 in that once it gets a bunch of rounds through it, that the trigger softens up a bit

Mine is approved and waiting for pickup. I'll have it by the weekend (damn work schedule).

Now, a .357 SP101 and an Alaskan in .44 (for Canada) and I am set ;)

I just had my Sp101 .22lr out to the range yesterday and while it was too cold to spend much time I was very impressed.

Put about 50 rounds through her without issue, and once I had adjusted the sights for 25m I was pretty happy with the initial groupings.

Will hope for a calmer, warmer day, and try a few different types of ammo next time.

I will post a detailed review, and range report when I do...

Wolff springs website: "
Important Note:
Due to changes in this gun by the manufacturer, the spring below will not function in SP101 .22 caliber rimfire models manufactured during and after 2011."

So no not yet :)

It has softened up with use though. Keeps getting better. I really enjoy the speedbees speed loader and loading block. I got mine off e-bay.
