Does anyone know if the newer Ruger SP101 revolver in .357 Mag with 4.2" barrel is coming to Canada? The barrel length works, I'd hope that Ruger
will be exporting some of them here?

Is there really a market for it here? I mean with a 4.2" barrel, you may as well buy a GP100 and benefit from the extra round in the cylinder. If someone can distribute the .22 LR version, then I'll change my tune.

I'm very interested in the SP101 .22 This will be my next purchase as long as the price is reasonable. I just hope they make it up here sooner rather than later.

they are already here.....

I saw one at Target Sports on the weekend.

That's interesting and happy news. I'm on a waiting list for one from Wolverine Supplies. Hopefully this is a good sign that the wait won't be much longer.

I made a post in this forum about a week ago. There's some nice pics of some custom grips a guy had on a diff forum. Just search 'sp101' to check it out.

Or get a 686 7-shot... I dunno - what market is there for any handgun in Canada? It all comes down to whatever turns your crank.

I want to get a good look at a 4.2" SP-101, and a 5" S&W 60 J-frame, then choose between them. A lightweight magnum revolver sounds like fun, like a firecracker in my hand :)

I shot a lightweight J frame in 357, with Federal 125 grain 357's, it's more like a pipe bomb or hand grenade going off in your hand than a firecracker.

Oh believe me, I support "whatever floats your boat", guess I'd prefer to see the .22 LR cross the border first. As for the 7 round 686, while it's a nice gun, seeing as action matches prevent shooters from having the extra seventh round, it's relegated to a niche gun; much like the restricted legnth SP101 in .357 Magnum. Just my $0.02.

Thanks, good to know it's here...I think it'll be a good stablemate for my SR9. I had a GP100 in .357 and it was a bit of a handful with full loads, I'll bet the SP101 is even more so. I'm thinking it would see more .38 Special ammo than .357. :)

sp101- vs gp100

The size is the same but the SP101 weights 10 OZ less ! Thats a lot ! if its a concern and it is for me . Cheers RJ :)

The SP101 is half an inch shorter with the same barrel, but yes, the main attraction is the slightly smaller grip for those of us without huge hands, and the 10.5 oz less weight!
It makes it a bit more high strung with .357 Mag ammo but a beauty to shoot with .38s, which you're going to shoot most of the time at the range anyway. I'm torn between the SP101 and a .44 Mag or .454 Casull hand cannon. Maybe I'll get both! :)
