Ruger SP101-22 compared to Ruger GP100

Weird, I don't find my GP 100 pulls (sa,da) to be that far off from my 629? The Smith is a wee bit better, but not by much (read negligible). Both guns are stock.

Do you find a difference between the Rugers? Is the SP101 stiffer than the GP100 or is it the lack of purchase on the 101's grip that makes things awkward?

It's the .22lr version that has an extra heavy setup out of the box. Pulling back the hammer for a single action shot the hammer feels twice as stiff as say a Ruger single six.

Mine has broken in nicely and i have done nothing to it other then put some snap caps and pull the trigger a hundred times or so each day for the first month!
This plus a few hundred shots at the range and it's settled in quite a bit and my finger is getting stronger!
It was so hard initially that I could feel tendon stress and that is no longer the case. Polishing, lighter mainspring and maybe some shims would be a good way to go but like I said a heavy break in period has smoothed it out quite a bit but the single action hammer #### still feels a lot heavier then any other .22lr revolver I've tried so I'm sure it could be reduced without effecting reliability.

The .357 I bought used a few years ago is a completely different story. I don't know if it was worked on or had springs changed as this was not mentioned at the time I bought it.... but it is very smooth light"Ruger" double action pull and extremely crisp light single action.

I say "Ruger" because they have a bit more of a staged feel to them then a Smith which some people don't like.

After firing the heavier .22lr my .357 feels incredibly light and both guns sit very nice in my hand and are easy to maintain a solid sight picture holding on target even with the heavier .22lr's double action pull.
I was never really a fan of double action shooting but the way these guns fit me it's just.... easy.

Can't wait for my SP in .357 to show up. My SP in .22lr will have company! I've place an order a few weeks ago with another sponsor but saw that Wanstall got some last Friday, mind you that I was quoted about $100 less for mine. I guess that since those are rare and only come in small qty, some dealers sell them for a bit more.

I believe the company that made the original GP grip for Ruger went out of business. There was something about it on one of the U.S. forums a few year back.

So I am huge fan of Ruger's revolvers so I would consider a SP in .22. However my question is this: where the S&W MP 22 could be used as a trainer for the 9mm MP, can the same be done for the SP 22 to the GP100?

Any thoughts?

I'm not sure on the frame size of the present vintage model SP101. My SP101 is an older model and as such, there is a slight difference in the basic frame size between the two, pictured above in my post #25. If the present model SP101 is the same frame size as my earlier model, you could compensate to an extent by a set of custom grips on the SP. That might help to promote a similar feel.
