There is an youtube video, how to do it yourself:

Question - did you do it? Would you recommend to do it?
I just hate that little thing I have to find and depress with my finger every time I change mag.

done it to every one I have ever owned

I did it to my m1 carbine clone 10/22, kind of a neat mod, easy to do. However, you don't need to lock the bolt back to change a mag. Or is the sr-22 different? I thought it was a standard 10/22 underneath.

can you still lock the bolt open? The auto release just makes it so you don't have to hit the tab to release it?

Yes and yes. The auto release allows you to drop the bolt by simplhy pulling it slightly rearward. A little time for disassembly and some grinding with a dremel and you are rewarded.

I am guessing this mod does not make the bolt lock open after the last shot, is there even a way to do this?

..nope.

There is a kit you can buy that will allow the bolt to lock open after last shot but it requires special mags or modification to factory mags.

The mod mentioned here enables the shooter to simply pull back the charging handle slightly and the bolt automatically releases, eliminating the need to push up and backward on the bolt lock mechanism to release the bolt.

This should help.

Just finished this mod and have been having issues with the pin that holds the mag release. For some reason the pin doesn't want to stay in, it just slides out. Has anybody had this problem?? please help
