Ruger SR-22 question???

I bought a brand new Ruger SR-22 rifle recently and tonight I finally got a chance to sight it in. I like everything about the gun except for the fact that the action doesnt stay opened after the last round is fired. this caused a couple "dry fires" and I'm concerned that this will be a bad thing in the long run. Is there anything I can do to modify the action to stay opened after the last round is fired? Or is it actually supposed to stay opened and my gun just isnt working properly? If it is made to not stay opened, isnt that kind of odd?

Thanks for any tips or help with my concerns!

Not the absolute best but still pretty good for the first night out with this gun and no bipod installed yet,

Your rifle is working just fine....
The Ruger SR22 isn't designed to allow the last shot bolt open, but it is designed to be dry fired with no short or long term effects.

Yes, there are bolt hold-open modifications you can do, as well as aftermarket parts that will do this.

Nope, it is not supposed to hold open. There is a small recessed area that allows the gun to be dry-fired without damage though.

See above, it is designed so that this can happen without damage.
 
Nice new rifle RD.. forget about last shot hold open, just shoot the crap out of it!!
Auto bolt release mod is worth your while ;)

I got a friend that says legally I have to pin my 25 round mags for 5 rounds, but isnt that just for center fire rifles? Arent 22's okay for large capacity mads?

Auto bolt release mod takes 5 min. with a dremel and a stone tip.

Your friend is wrong. 25 round mags are legal for rimfire rifles.

Finished the bolt mod, took me about 30 minutes taking my time, wasnt hard at all, I was worried about nothing! Had to do it twice and take a tiny bit more out the second time I ground the part, works awesome now!

And yes, I figured he was mistaken, he was just letting me know because he didnt want to see me get into popo with a CO.

Thanks to Youtube for the video on how to do the bolt mod, thanks to the manual (I finally read it) for the tear down instructions and Utah for the tip on this mod!
 
I added a bottom rail, it needed some custom machining to make it work, luckily I have a Bridgeport mill in the man cave :)
I had to open up one of the slots for the bolt used to clamp the bi-pod to the rail, and had to open up 2 of the mounting holes as well as move one about 0.09" and re-countersink the holes.....

Take off the sling/tripod thingy (let the barrel free float), mount the rails flush with handguard, that way the bipod mounts to the end.

VQ trigger is really nice, comes with the auto bolt release. SR22 trigger sucks.
