Ruger sr-556

I asked P&D enterprises in Edmonton if they would ever get the SR 556 in stock and they said that it has been permanently banned by the USA for export.

Bummer it is a sharp gun with a few extras I would love on my AR like a Piston driven action and a 4 stage gas regulator.
 
i was talking with one of the gun shops and was told that they are actually prohib in canada for some stupid reason, cant remember what the reason was, but a cried a little over it, so i got the little brother, but not quite the same:(

Other AR variants are allowed to be exported, does the SR have some "features" that the Yanks are afraid of?

I talked to the Canadian Ruger LE rep. He said they could get a few samples for LE purpose only, but they will not be importing them for civilian sales due to US regulations. I have seen this gun, it is out of this world, and the standard features it comes with are very cool.

Yeah there is a feature that made it a prohibited rifle. It was specifically designed to accept a silencer (like many ARs) but you can turn the gas regulator completely off making it a single shot, non-cycling semi-auto. That way there will not be any mechanical sounds of the action cycling, just the pin strike and hiss of the bullet. This feature places it a bit further into the anti-personal realm and further outside the recreational shooter realm.

However without a silencer to take advantage of this feature you pretty much have a moderately disabled AR. Who wants to have an AR style rifle that you have to rack every time you want to shoot? Prohibiting Canadians from owning a gun that has the potential to be used in concert with a prohibited device is like saying Canadians can not have shotguns anymore because they can be used to fire illegal 'flachette' shells.

Don't try to make sense of any decision made in Ottawa, it will only waste your time and make you angry.

Ummm...isn't his "banned" by the US from exporting not Canada from importing? That would make it a US decision made in Washington.

LOL I guess I should hand in my AR10 SASS and USP tactical then, both specifically designed for use with a supressor. You guy crack me up here with your gun shop rumours.
