Ruger sr-556

Trying to make sense of the US State dept. is an exercise in futility... As show from my latest Brownells order.

** NOTES ** SIR: HAVE CANCELED 100-002-196 PER OUR
DEPT OF STATE THE 5.56 NATO RANGER
PLATE IS A MILITARY ITEM FOR A GOVT
ISSUE 30RD MAGAZINE AND MUST BE
DELETED FROM THE LICENSE .

Anybody know what the difference is between a "Government issue" 30rds magazine and a "civilian" 30rds magazine

Yeah there is a feature that made it a prohibited rifle. It was specifically designed to accept a silencer (like many ARs) but you can turn the gas regulator completely off making it a single shot, non-cycling semi-auto. That way there will not be any mechanical sounds of the action cycling, just the pin strike and hiss of the bullet. This feature places it a bit further into the anti-personal realm and further outside the recreational shooter realm.

However without a silencer to take advantage of this feature you pretty much have a moderately disabled AR. Who wants to have an AR style rifle that you have to rack every time you want to shoot? Prohibiting Canadians from owning a gun that has the potential to be used in concert with a prohibited device is like saying Canadians can not have shotguns anymore because they can be used to fire illegal 'flachette' shells.

Don't try to make sense of any decision made in Ottawa, it will only waste your time and make you angry.

 :feedTroll:

Glad I read this, I learnt alot today about why my M14 is prohibited ( has same gas regulator feature) makes sense now.

Man, seriously talk about trying to make a first impression, this is not a gun shop were people only know about gun shop talk.

IMO, a suppressor would make for greater utility of a hunting/sporting rig. Have you ever tried target shooting/hunting for an afternoon in -5C or less with even a moderate wind? Without a hat under the muffs, I start to go numb in all the places that matter in just over an hour. With the hat, the muffs don't work right and my ears start to ring after a few rounds.

End result, a suppressor would increase the safety and utility of my rig for myself and others. Come to think of it, while I'm still dreaming I think I'll get my woman a farm with some horses too.
