Ruger SR-9 vs. GLOCK 17

I expect this one has been done to death but what is the opinion regarding the Ruger SR-9 against the GLOCK 17. I have a GLOCK already but I like the look and feel of the SR-9 especially with the shiny stainless slide (I'm ex- military I can't help it I like shiny things) I'm not ready to give up the Glock so is the Ruger worth it to have two pistols so similar? I also like the option of the manual safety if I need it.Thanks
 
well some peopel only own glocks or have a bunch of them so I think it's made more sense to have a ruger and the glock. They are a bit similar but if that's what you like go for it it's cheap.

ps: personally I have no interest in the SR-9 and would rather get a another M&P (I sold mine :() or the STI GP6. Also might want to consider Taurus 24/7, Steyr M-A1 and CZ P-07 Duty.
 
You already own a fantastic polymer framed combat pistol. The Ruger is just another polymer framed combat pistol except with a trigger that is absolutely garbage. Stay with Glock. Get the slide refinished or buff it yourself to a silver, mirror like finish.

Alternatively, if you want something that fits a little more snug in your hand the M&P might work or try the Glock 19.

i have a G17 and my buddy has the sr9 like them both but really like my glock for the ease of cleaning/ dissasembleing and for whatever reason seem to be alot more accurate with the glock............
 
The SR9 is stupidly easy to clean, if Glocks are easier to take down, I'd be worried about stray cats and dogs disabling them. Never owned a Glock, got an SR9 since its more friendly for lefties out of the box. I'm no expert , but it shoots well and has been totally flawless after 600+ rounds of American Eagle and Blazer. Its new, I plan to put many more through by summer's end.
 
I agree that this has been done to death, and Glockers will continue to pray to their God while demonizing the SR9. I paid less for my SR9, knowing it was not H&K. I've used Glocks, can't agree they're superior by any huge margin in fact Glocks fit my hand much worse. And do I really need the barrel out in less than 5 seconds? If so, why?
 
I have handled several SR-9, some at store and some at range, they are better than my G17, the flame better made, trigger the same heavy, slim profile made a dream to grip. price about the same as Glock, may be a little cheaper, anyhow a lot of people chasing brand name and willing to play high dallors for a shooting iron. Ruger target a user market and I think they do it quite well, it might be take some more time to clear the bugs but this little gun is a real deal.

I paid 420$ for my shiny slim SR9 brand spanking new and love it. The trigger really smooths out after a few thousand rounds and the removal of the mag dis connector.
I really enjoy the slimness of the grip compared to the glock and it has a reversible back strap to increase the grip size.
But the correct answer is ya gotta have both!
 
I you like Glock and think the SR9 is cool, take a look at the M&P9. To me its like Glocks younger, stronger, prettier brother :). The M&P9 has 3 different palm swell sizes and can be taken down in under 10seconds and cleaned really easy.
 
Glock 17 - kind square-ish grip..kickback is ok..smooth shooting gun. quite accurate it didn't fit my small hands entirely...
Ruger SR9 - good grip, somewhat accurate (i'm a bad shot today), smooth action.

also tried today...

Walter P99 - pretty light gun, somewhat more kickback than expected. good ergos
IWI Baby Eagle - Heavier than the glock by almost a pound (at least). pretty smooth action and accuracy.
s&w 9mm - good grips (after changing them to fit myself) highly accurate, good value.

i think that's it for now. of all the ones i shot today, i'd go for the SR9 or S&W.
 
If you like it buy it. I have a Glock but have no ill will towards other guns. M&P and CZ are also on my wish list. I have an XD too that doesn't see outside the safe much anymore.

I will admit the Glock ergonomics leave something to be desired (especially compared to M&P) but they are to pistols like 870's are to shotguns - accessories and parts are really easy to come by, and they do have a good record.

I like to wait 2-3 years after a gun launches before putting my money down so the kinks can be worked out, but really if it fits your hand, and you want it, who cares what strangers on the internet say. Buy it. You can always sell it if it doesn't meet your expectations.
 
There's nothing really wrong with either one. Both are striker-fired polymer framed pistols.

I've shot both and found the Ruger to fit my hands better, which is why I bought it. Your hand ergonomics may be different, and the Glock might fit your hands better.

Can't go wrong with either one.
 
Ergos are funny - I have heard many people bag on the ergos of the G21 .45, but I love the feel of them. My SR9 feels better in my hand with the slim grip, but I shoot it a little better with the fatter grip.

I don't think you could go wrong with a M&P, SR9 or Glock.

Thanks for the info. Now, can someone tell me where I can get an SR-9 for $420.00 and they ship to Ontario, any SR-9 I find here is around $600 or more.
