Ruger SR1911 .45 Why so many up on the EE?

Seeing quite a few of the Ruger SR1911's up for sale on the EE and for whatever reasons can't quite understand it.
This 1911 clone at least to me seems to be of excellent value in a stainless steel version for what they are going for new.
The only add-on mod I would do is an ambi safety being a port sider but that's it. It's already got all the upgrades we used to have to pay way up front for in a custom job 20 years ago. The trigger is more than acceptable right out of the box. The sights are just the ticket. It averages 1 1/2"-2" groupings off a rest @ 20 yards.
I've put around 300 rounds through mine with not a single failure using everything from 230 grain FMJ, hollow points to the plated truncated cones in 200 grain and the 185 grain Critical Defence. Not a single hiccup.
What's your experience and if so why did you part with it?
 
Christmas and holiday $$$ hangovers are beginning.

The next little bit will be a great time to watch the EE and scoop up deals from "motivated" sellers....SR1911's are great and they sell fast....easy to liquidate.
 
Haven't fired mine yet. No desire to sell it.

Keeping my eyes on the EE for any that come up for sale cheap, though.

I'd buy another one in exc shape if the price was "right".

I think a lot of people buy 1911s, and then after a relatively short time realize that unless you're a 1911 nut, there isn't anything magical about them. And then you buy a few boxes of .45...suddenly that CanAm deal that included a thousand rounds but locked you in to buying .45 for the life of the gun seems like one of those cheap printers that takes $60 ink cartridges.

People who buy entry-level 1911s are probably more prone to this just because by the time you spend $2000+ on a 1911, there is a good chance you got over the money or accepted the level of your obsession or whatever quite a while ago.

It struck me as a good price on a solid entry-level 1911 and I think a lot of people agreed and bought them, and now interest and/or financial commitment has waned, and there's lots of them out there so a fair number make it to the EE.


I definitely don't think it's because there's a particular downside to the SR1911.
 
When it was first announced that Ruger was making a 1911, there was a lot of hype, and everybody wanted one. Just like the 4.2 inch 629. Now you see a few more of those on the EE these days. Peoples interest are just changing now as the market got flooded with the SR1911.
 
I am taking mine to an indoor range tomorrow for the first firing since I got it. I am amazed at the prices some people are asking for them used. I got mine brand new for $650 plus tax and shipping from Jo-Brook during their boxing week sale.
 
I rented a 1911 at my local gun club and got the 1911 bug.

When the SR1911 came out there was a lot of hype and great reviews. I managed to snag one in a hurry from a supporting dealer. I was quite turned off by the fit and finish; when I received the package, I could hear the trigger clunking in the frame through the cartboard box. The grip safety was also quite sloppy. It still worked well out of the box but fit and finish was not up to my demanding standards. I managed to sell it with minimal loss.

I then bought an Ed Brown Executive Target and I'm a happy camper. Of course you can't really compare both firearms I like high end firearms and won't settle for less.
 
Could it be that Ruger put out too many firearms, too fast, during the U.S. panic gun buying frency,
that QC suffered and people are now unloading them?
 
If peeps are selling off their SR1911, well I'm always up for a great deal on one. I say sell 'em boys! Then again, EE pricing means cheaper to buy at retail store. HA! :)
 
I have seen and handled 2 sr1911's in person. One was terrible and one was fantastic. It is a gun I would buy only if I could handle it in person first.
 
I have put 500 rounds though mine and it works fine. I think they look good but the fit and finish is certainly not as good as a high end gun. Although mine is tight and I have not noticed anything major but there are small imperfections. My guess is some people think that because of the reviews being so good they are getting a more high end gun than it is. To me this is a very good basic mass produced 1911 with the functional bugs worked out but if you like everything perfect in appearance this is probably not the gun for you. Not saying it is bad but comparing it with a $1700 Kimber it is certainly not as well finished. Anyway I like mine and have no intention of selling it and I certainly wouldn't hesitate to buy one used.
 
It's somewhat odd to me at least that the commander model, albeit basically the same frame & same parts is about $150.00 suggested retail more than the std model.
What's this, marketing logic?
 
Shot 50 rounds through mine tonight. Very first rounds since I took delivery a few weeks ago. Ran great. Awesome accuracy, even if it less than 10 yards!
Only glitch was with a mag that got a bit sticky while inserting. Gave it a good shove and it was okay.
Gotta say that the thing shoots great and recoil is so much more manageable than my other gun I was shooting tonight, my new Glock 22 in .40S&W.
This was my first time shooting indoors and I found it hard to get my sight picture. It took me a while to get used to compensating but I think I could pull way better accuracy in sunlight.
Still, would I recommend this gun to a friend? Even with such limited use I would say "You bet".
