Well after a year wait my Ruger SR1911 Commander is finally here!
i picked up the full sized SR1911 last year and really like it, in fact its probably my favorite 1911 that i have. (dont ask how many!)
but i have been interested in the commander sized 1911's for a while and wanted to pick one up.
then last year when Ruger came out with their commander i wanted one.
but of course it has taken almost a year to get one in my hot little hands.
BUT, its been worth the wait!
this gun is fantastic!
i picked it up from Roger at Shooters Choice (.ca) who is my go to guy, and he marked me down for one and pestered his supplier for me. And it payed off because i havnt heard or seen anyone else in Canada to has them in stock yet! (yes, in stock! i see he has them on his website - and if you want one tell him i sent you so maybe i can get a deal on my next purchase, because there is always a next purchase with this hobby!)
so out of the box, it is the same as the full size, comes with the ruger black nylon case, ruger lock, 2 mags - though the full size did come with one 8 and one 7 the commander comes with 2x7's, and of course all the paperwork and the test brass.
i will say one thing about unboxing the commander.
the gun didnt look 'as clean' as i would have liked it too, or i guess i should say what as clean as i was expecting it to be.
it was rather smudgy and dirty out of the box, from the test fire id assume.
but, a good cleaning and a protective coat of G96 and man she looks good and feels great!
my wife came down to have a look out in my shop and she really like the feel of it too!
which surprised me because she historically dosnt like 1911's due to the weight of them.
gun fit and finish is flawless.
no rattle trap either! i lucked out with both mine i guess, both are perfect!
though i havnt heard much of the commanders having that problem that the full sized ones did.
only complaint i can find about the gun is that the mag release is tight when putting a mag in.
i have to really slam it to get it in but that should relax with use, if not ill sand that bugger down!
out at the range the gun was very nice to shoot!
now, let me paint the picture for you.
crisp and cold out, -30 on the thermometer plus wind chill its saying is -38
i decided against gloves because i really like the feel of the gun on my hand.
that lasted for 5 mags then the gloves went on!!!
blood hell its cold shooting today! its worse reloading!
i ended up doing my reloading in the truck with the guns on the dash to warm them up.
i was shooting Norinco ammo today, 100 rounds down the pipe, no failures to feed or fire.
flawless performance!
here are some pics, the big target is the commander with the first batch right out of the box.
the small blue circles at the bottom are the full size Ruger 1911.
so its shooting a scooch to the right, but that should be my hand being frozen onto the gun???
the full size is shooting perfect as always.
Dirty Girls just back from the range.
at any rate, love the new gun, LOVE THE NEW GUN!
well worth the wait, and worth the extra $150 over the full size.
id spend it again if i had to.
so if your by-curious about the commander size and like the full size ruger jump in!
