Ruger SR1911 or STI Spartan?

Of the two, I would be inclined to pick the Ruger because it comes closer to a configuration I prefer:

-Standard GI guide rod
-Fixed sights
-Rear slide serrations only; no tacky STI "billboard" slide markings

The integral plunger tube on the Ruger is another bonus, as it won't come un-staked.

As far as warranty goes, my understanding is that Ruger doesn't offer an explicit written warranty, but they will fix it free of charge if there are any problems.

I picked up my SR1911 yesterday and shoot it during *DPA practice last night, the thing is a laser, when shooting slow fire it was making one ragged hole at 10 yds, i did notice the sights where fairly high compared to a taurus 1911, even though both have "novak" style sights.

some other things I liked about it are the extended mag release and the grips are perfect in construction and execution. the engraving is more tasteful then the pictures on the web and ruger put thier "read owners maunal" warning on the bottom of the dust cover rather then on the slide like the other guns.

one thing of note is that ruger supplies the gun with 2 magazine, an 8 round with bumper pad and a standard 7 rounder with metal base, i wish they did supply it with 2x 8 rounders instead of the mish mash.

as a bonus you get a gun rug and a bushing wrench with the 1911 instead of the ruger gray plastic box... the pistol rug is pretty nice.

The American Rifleman review of the Ruger shows the average 25 yard group size with the five types of ammo they tested as 1.98". That is impressive!

And it's dishwasher safe...

In the end it come down to luck. I ordered a tuned Spartan after reading all the great reviews, but what I got was flawed slide lugs and an ejector and rear sights that had clearly been installed by a monkey with a hammer. So much for QC. On that note, STI took it back, so at least we know that they will help you out.
