Ruger SR22 Auto-Bolt Release

I wonder if there is a mod where you can just press the bolt release and it engages/readies the bolt without cranking back on the charging handle?

No.

It really sounds like most of the problem here, is that you misunderstood what the auto bolt release was supposed to do.

If you are looking for pushing in a button to drop the bolt onto a fresh mag, this ain't it.

All the auto bolt release does is prevents you from having to get fat fingers under the tab on the bolt hold-back lever, when you go to chamber a round after you have pushed it in to lock the bolt back.

Should work fine without a mag. Lock the bolt back, pull back a bit on the charging handle and release to close the bolt. That's all.

If you wanted it to hold the bolt back automatically, Brownell's sells a kit. Expensive and needs modified magazines to work. And still does not drop the bolt by pushing a button.

Sounds to me the problem has to do with your expectations, rather than the parts.
They don't work like you thought they do.

If you want a firearm that works like an AR, you pretty much gotta look at the S&W or the Colt. Not even sure if they use the same buttonology as the AR, and they are Restricted, so range only use.

Cheers

Thanks Trev - your right about my expectations - however, the autobolt release from rimfire sports was/is faulty and I have been told about this by other CGN members - my grinded out factory release is working fine now.

But what is weird is that I can get the bolt to release 'sometimes' by just pressing hard on the modified release and holding the rifle so that the ejection port is angled upwards - maybe I grinded out a little too much - Or maybe I should grind out a little more to make it more consistent - hehehe

I don't know, this sounds odd.
You certain the VQ Auto bolt release is bad?
I just received one last week from RS and it works perfect.
Is it possible you ordered a replacement bolt release (non-auto)?

I have a SR 22 that I bought new from a dealer in New Brunswick I took the gun to the range and fire aprox 350 rounds out of it and then the barrel and whole from receiver fell out, Have any of you guys had simular problems? or did I just get a Friday gun?

not quite following you here, are you saying the barrel fell out of the gun?

Another member on CGN told me the VQ's could be faulty - i think i got one of those - my mod on the factory is working fine, so I'm a happy camper now.

Are you sure its a Ruger and not a Remington 597 VTR?
