Ruger SR9 - any interest?

After shooting it at the range today... yeah... I think it just dropped a little lower on my list. Great value, but.. damn that trigger sucks. But, it's still kinda fun.

My trigger got nice and smooth after a couple of hundred rounds.

I love the feel of my SR9, probably due to the smaller grips as I have small hands. The trigger was rough at first, but smoothed up real nice after around 500 rounds.

That said, my SR9 with about 1500 rounds through it is being replaced by ruger due to major accuracy problems. It was grouping 12-16 inches at 20 yards when I sent it off for repair. They replaced the barrel and slide and the accuracy was still bad, so they are sending me a brand new gun.

It sucks having a new gun with problems, but at least they are taking care of the situation.

I have never found any reference to this problem anywhere online, and ruger was stumped, so it does not appear to be a common issue.

Unlike the previous poster the SR9 in my safe is very accurate. If you are into accuracy they are a great gun for the money. Its a very nice little pistol. It fits some hands exceptionally well, recoil is very tame so follow up shots are fast, sights are good enough, right out of the box it digests any ammo its fed and doesn't require a 500 round break in like many German Sigs do. It has the slide indicator showing a round in the chamber which I like. I personally think its a very good gun for the money and would highly recommend anyone looking to buy it if it fits your hand.

There are so many good guns on the market but not all are value buys. I do believe the SR9 to be a value buy, and you will have to spend quite a bit more to get a little better gun.

I like using it for training new shooters as it seems to cycle better than a glock when limp wristing, an issue often present with new nervous shooters.

I like the ruger sr9, feels really good in the hands.
If you do decide to buy it, make sure you shop around, I have seen the prices vary quite abit, I guess the same with most guns...

I have approx. 250 rounds through my SR9 and I love it:ar15:. I have large hands (insert joke:D) and I find it fits comfortably with the thick backstrap.
Gun gives a new shooter lots of confidence being accurate right out of the box.
Never had any issues and the gun feeds everything including reloads.
Easy to disassemble and clean.
Best gun for the price

I think they are the nicest pistol Ruger has made so far, feels good in the hand, the only thing that put me off was that I found I would rake my fingers on the slide release pulling the slide back.

Thanks for your opinions and experiences! How does the SR9 shoot hollow points, then? I've got a lot of HP bullets sitting on my bench, just have to handload them, waiting for a gun that likes them...

My buddy has a green one and I love it!! Other than the ### safety there is nothing wrong with the gun. I love the SR9 and SR40's are pretty sweet as well.

i was torn between this, m&p 9 and fnp 9 for my first gun, shot all three several times, loved all three but decided to go with m&p based on reputation and i admittedly kinda regret it. i really like the sr9
ah well...maybe in a different life...

OK here goes nothing lol.

Got one for my wife for christmas, at Italian 4 days before the sale :( , took it out to DVC tonight. I just dont get what people are saying about the trigger! Its crisp, shorter pull and cleaner breaking than my XD-m that costs twice as much. Excellent accuracy, her groups tightened up considerable over both my Xd-m and the HK P30l. She actually kept all ten rounds in the center zone. Still about a 10 or 12 inch group at 5 yards so she has a long way to go but with other guns she has missed the paper completely at least 1 out of 10 rounds. Mostly for her its neves and she pulls, but when she relaxed and took her time, she stacked four shots in a 1 inch group. As for me, I could keep all ten shots on the target's legend in the corner, so about a 2.5 inch group, again at 5 yards.

Downside - I gotta be honest and not be a Ruger shill here. The grip leave something to be desired. Its pretty smooth and being hard plastic, its a little hard to get a solid puchase on it. You can get a slip on grip sleeve that will fit it that has finger groves and all and doesn't add much at all to thickness. I'll be getting one for her asap and I'll post again when she tries it out. Also for me, I like to grip my left index finger on the front of the trigger gaurd and the shape of it doesn't work as well as some other guns for that. A personal thing i know, but still.

For the money, its gonna be pretty damn hard to beat

Oh! and it feeds hollow points just fine too. Put two mags though it of cheap winchester stuff $20 for 50 rounds. Acurracy picked up a tick to the calibrated eyeball and the gun didnt know the difference from the 100 rounds of FMJ

For me, I didn't like how the trigger feels like you're pulling on a bunch of rubber bands. It made taking up the slack a little unpredictable and gritty. Again, this is from shooting a rental SR-9, but it was the same impression I had when I handled it at the shop. Definitely a trigger to get used to.

Also, grip was too small for my gorilla hands.. :(

I've shot the rental at DVC too, and thats just not the impression I got of it. But again a personal thing. If you are used to An S&W revolver trigger then I could understand, but hey if we aall liked the same things, there wouldnt be so many guns out there to choose from :)

Well, solved the grip issue. Grabbed a Pachmayr slip on pistol grip #3 yoday for 8.99 and took her back down and fired off another 100 rounds. Made a world of difference, the wife LOVES it and down to 5 inch groups at 5 yards and one 4 inch group - 10 rounds per group. And the smile on her face said... Money well spent!!

I don't have a specific interest in an SR9, but if I could not get a G17, HK, or M&P, that's probably the only other polymer I would consider.

I find them incredibly comfortable to hold, which is meaningless but appealing anyway. And having looked inside one a while ago I'm fairly convinced that if they're not paying royalties to Glock, they probably should be.

They haven't taken off (partly on account of Ruger's bizarre obsession with releasing guns that are only half ready, then recalling them all, and releasing them again) but I suspect they are a bit of a hidden gem. On the other hand, I have yet to see any large-scale testing involving the SR9. Still...I suspect they are a better gun than most people realize.

Well I put the grip tape in a few choice places on my Xd-m and after a fairly short time, it started sliding around and falling off. I put a sleeve on mine too, although it was one designed for the Xd-m, and I like it WAY better than the grip tape. For less than 10 bucks and about a minute to install, the slip on grip is a great change for the better. I was pretty skeptical abou them but I have to admit I was wrong. I was actually talked into it by an female RCMP officer that was shooting right next to us. She had one on hers, I forget what it was, a stainless 1911 style pistol. She said it had improved feel for her alot
