I was looking at picking up a Ruger SR( in stainless the other day wholesale has it for 560 bucks what is the general consense on this pistol are there any proablems with it or is it a farily trouble free gun to own

I agree with TDC. As far as combat handguns go there's a whole bunch of others for slightly more money (less than a hundred dollars more) that I'd recommend. I find the trigger of the SR9 to be the worst I've ever pulled. Look to the Glock 17, S&W M&P, CZ P07, STI GP06, all polymer framed combat handguns in the same price range.

Also, outside of combat handguns what about other economical options that are often overlooked: IWI Jericho/Baby Eagle.

Goodluck,
Tim.

You need to shoot the pistol before you buy, to see if it fits you. I own two one in black and bright stainless. They are both post recall. They are the best value out there for the buck. I have never had a bit of problem with the one that has 1400 rounds through it. If you do have a problem Ruger has the best service of all the makers. Do not take the advice of a few people that have most likely never seen or held one. Do your own research and shoot one and then make up your mind.

I beg to differ.

After a fair bit of research I bough a SR9 for my wife and to say I am impressed would be an understatement.

Yes there was a recall on the original pistols but that has been resolved much the same as Sako did with their splitting barrels and Remington did with the safeties on the Model 700 rifles.

The trigger on ours was not too bad for a double action pull and it smoothed out even more after a few hundred rounds. After close to a thousand rounds the only feeding failures happened using cheap Prvi Partizan hardball and even then it was during the first dozen or so shots from the brand-new gun. Other than that it has handled hand-loaded cast, hollow points and hardball without a hick-up.

I love this assumption that because I don't like it I must've never seen or handled one! In fact, I have. Not only have I seen and handled many (all of them at Al Simmons had in stock in the summer) but fired one.

It's a combat handgun that others have a history or reputation of doing, and doing better. SR9 is nothing more than another product jockeying for position in a market. Just like Dole is to Minute Maid.

I have an SR9 and have fired over 2000 rounds though it, with the firearm being trouble free so far. While it is not the "Best" combat handgun out there it is good value for the cost. I'm sure it will provide you with many years of shooting fun.

Honestly I really want one, but seems Ruger rush their product out inorder to complet with the market, they don't really give a try to test out everything. The SR-9 seems resolve many QC issue but then the SRC start show problem right after launched the market. I will wait until not many negative feed back from Ruger forum.

They feel nice with a slim grip and seem to be a good eal for the money, the thing that stopped me buying it was the safetyu and how it raked my fingers when pulling the slide back. Your mileage may vary. I think they are likely the nicest pistol Ruger has produced so far.

Regardless of what you choose, don't overlook the aspect of support. If you can't find magazines, parts and accessories for it, what's the point? Furthermore, if the pistol won't feed all brands, weights and styles of ammunition, its a lemon.

The one I handled (didn't shoot it, but had a really good look at it) seemed to be a well thought out, well built, small pistol. This sucker is very small, if you have small hands it may be the best choice for you. Also if you're a fan of small pistols, but don't have a 12.6 this is the cheapest small gun available in a full size calibre.

....has it for 560 bucks...

SR9 price point is great but for $39 more, maybe a G17/22 (from BlueLine) may be a more proven pistol to consider. It ain't stainless but are utterly reliable and accurate enough for law enforcement as well as action game organizations. Let us know what you finally decide. Good luck shopping and Happy shooting!!!:canadaFlag::ar15:

It's a great pistol. It eats everything and is very accurate. If it fits your hand, buy it, you won't be sorry. For under $600 it's hard to beat the SR-9.
