Basically, i want a leg holster that will tie into my 5.11 tact vest. whats the best course of action and the things to buy here?
im just curious because im not sure if the paddle will go onto the leg drop or if thats its own thing. very out of my element on this one. new to the pistol scene.

Any insight would be very appreciated!

Drop holsters (worn properly) are used to lower the level of the holster just below the lower edge of your LBG. Most drop holsters you see being worn are being worn wrong. The goal is to clear the vest/plate carrier not to keep your knee warm. That said they generally use one or more straps to the belt, under the vest/carrier. Safariland makes the best drop rigs.

not really sure on the drop leg thing, as I do IDPA, but Comp Tac makes excellent holsters, and I absolutely love my Minotaur Gladiator from them. Its really comfortable, fits great and is well made. In fact I liked it so much I got one for my other pistols.
