I have been shopping around and im looking for my first pistol which I would like to be in 9mm. I was considering the ruger sr9 due to the quality name, low pricw (under $$500), and cool look. Anyone own or shoot this pistol, and have any advice on the quality of the firearm? Any information, pictures, or videos shooting this gun is appreciated.

Really really skinny grip on the gun is something I hate on it, but I did put my first 5 shots ever shooting it into the X ring so......decent gun.

I didn't have option to flip the back strap over to fit my hand better so oh well.

I'd buy one from my experience with it.

I've heard that they're damned near impossible to find in Canada right now. Is that a con? ;-)

It is not impossible, blue line have them in stock. The Sr-9 is a very nice gun, the one that I had shoot really nice, trigger is not bad. The traditional Ruger's workmanship is not on par with other brand name. I like the gun but decided to keep the Glocks instead.

I would say the only downside is that if the extractor gets dirty, you will occasionally have a empty get stuck half way out. Keep it clean and no problems, great gun for the price especially if you have smaller hands

From my own personal direct experience:

Pros
-ergonomics are a definite pro for me as I have fetus hands. Slim grip, nice grip angle, very 1911ish, right up my alley!
-I'm one of those weirdos that likes manual safeties, plus the location is perfect (again 1911ish)
-reliability and durability has been good to very good on the range guns we have

Cons
-stock sights are not for me... a bit too small and low profile for my liking
-this probably wouldn't bother someone who isn't as insane as me but the serrations at the rear of the slide are too far forward
-I haven't kept very up to date to be fair but I think accessories and parts aren't the most common

Trigger is decent so neither a pro nor con as it's neither outstanding or terrible. Slightly spongey in my opinion.

Overall, I would recommend expecially given the price.

Excellent gun for the money but if I had larger mitts i'd go with Glock. It has the smallest grip of any double stack I can think of. Trigger spongy but there is a ghost trigger kit and the front site can be changed to a fiber optic. I'm not a fan of the safety but you never need to use it so it's not an issue.

According to their product page they're sold out....

I really like my SR9. I have relatively large hands but I still find it points and shoots like a dream. I was worried it wouldn't fit me after reading all of the reviews about the small grip and whatnot but you shouldn't let that dissuade you. It is a terrific pistol..everyone should have one :)

Totally agree with RF. I had the same concerns, but it feels good in the hands (I use the largest back strap for my G17 and my M&P .45), but the SR9 fits me pretty well.

Oh yeah.........mine is in OD :p

My buddy has a green one. Ive fired it a bunch of times. Great gun! Fun to shoot and ultra reliable with any cheap boxed ammo. ### safety's(safety of a striker fired?!? come on) and weird features like that pop up loaded chamber indicator. And can't dry fire the gun with a mag out. But for the money it shoots great and is very comfortable in the hands. Trigger is similar to a Glock but stiffer, less take-up and less mushy. Not great by any strech but you get used to it. Id buy one.

Mine fires with the mag out as did most of the ones I looked at the store until they sold out.

They come with a mag disconnect but it's removable.
I quite like the sights, the rear is well designed for an adjustable sight that is still contoured nicely not to hang up on anything.

One con is the big smooth external extractor that sits proud in the slide serrations making them less effective and harder to grab.
The SR9 has a fairly stiff recoil spring and the extractor forces you to grip lower on that side of the slide and in that lower position your fingers will brush the safety lever when working the slide. The safety levers sit a bit high in the off position and are somewhat sharp edged.
I guess that's 2 cons.

The trigger really needs a few hundred rounds before it feels good, but other than that I love it. I have never had a stoppage and the gun is really fun to shoot.
