Ruger SR9

I agree, and that was the point I was making, and while I do like some of HK's offerings, especially the P30, even with their great quality they are undeniably over priced, at least to me. The Sig is a good example though. One thing that was funny to me though were some of the comments about the barrel, if someone posted a picture of Glock or Smith barrel, or say a comparably priced 1911 like the SR1911 or R1 barrel that looked like that it would be preposterous, everyone would be telling the OP to send it back. Its accepted as being fine because the gun itself is cheaper and still functions fine, and people claim to not care, which I can understand. But having said that, dont make the argument that it is "just as good" because it really isnt, it might be a good bang for your buck, or just as accurate etc, but its not comparable in many categories. The gun has been around for quite a while now, and to my knowledge, and correct me if Im wrong, has no government or agency contracts, and there has to be some reason for that. I lump it into the same category as the XD(m), viable options for some, but are surpassed by the big three (Glock, HK, Smith and now even the PPQ) in pretty much every facet other than price point, which admittedly can be the deal breaker. Again, not saying its junk, not saying I will never own one, I just dont think that it being cheap is enough of a reason to NOT get one of the other three, unless it just fits your hand perfect.
 
SIG is not what it used to be...the finishes are really lacking and they are the #1 pistol going in for service/warranty work in Canada. They are over priced for what you are (now) getting today.

Cant disagree with that, the issues with them are well documented and theres no doubt their brand is still very strong based a lot on what they used to be. Though, their 1911's seem to be selling well with fairly little to report as far as issues.
 
Hitzy just doesn't get it, do you? It's one thing to slag a product you don't like, another to make elitist, insulting remarks about those that feel otherwise. If anyone is on a Crusade, it's you. The SR series stands on it's own merit, with or without your approval.

I don't give a rat's azz what you think about any gun, Ruger products in general or the SR9 in particular. I do take umbrage with your pseuo-intellectual, know-it-all attitude in expressing your opinion.
Most of us on this forum are gun savvy people, aware of the deficiencies and lack of quality in various makes, and no one make seems to be exempt. In the end, the market decides and it's the true indicator.

In the meantime, those of us happy with the SR series of guns will continue to enjoy them. I look to see yours posted at a give-away price on the EE.

Good point , Hitzy should sell it for what he feels its worth.
By the sounds of it Hitzy feels it should sell for the same as a Chinese gun less a bit for use so I'd imagine $300 shipped would be a good asking price with plenty of room to drop if needed!
 
I have to abide by the EE rules..... Its used, fired a few hundred rounds, so it has to be worth at least 10% more then new ones....lol

I bought my Ruger SR9 for $459, paid Galloway Precision about a $100 for springs, polished stainless bits, and a Rocket trigger connector.
I installed the new pieces, polished the slide's contact areas with a cloth dremel bit and polishing compound, and the pistol shoots like a
$1,000+ pistol. I shoot fairly quickly and put all my shots into the 6" round targets with the odd shot clipping the edge...I can live with
that from a half-grand semi auto pistol. No complaints...
 
Yahbut ..... according to Hitzy, the gun should have come from Ruger with all that DONE for the list price.

My lady has put about 350 rds through her SR9 and I've yet to tear it down or clean it. I will after a logged 500 rds. Then I'll look for high spots, roughness, etc. I've applied a bit of oil and that's all.
I have a phobia about excessive gun cleaning, stemming from the good guns we ruined in the Army from over cleaning and improper cleaning. That was abuse.
 
IMHO, all the polymer-framed "squirt guns" are pretty cheezy. To argue that one is head and shoulder's better than another is patently ridiculous as they are all cut from the same cloth. Glock was simply first out of the gate and as result have a cult-like following and the benefit of year's of marketing. If you really want a quality 9mm pistol that will last a lifetime buy something made out of steel like a CZ or Browning HP.
 
Yup, all them polymer framed guns is pure junk - like all those high-tech expensive cars and trucks we drive with plastic/polymer parts ..... Yeah, yeah, I know - apples & oranges comparison. Like it or not, poly plastic is part of our culture now and for the foreseeable future.

That explains all the armies and police agencies that have adopted them around the world. Oh, I forgot - they bought them 'cause they are sincerely concerned about spending the tax dollars of their citizens, so they bought cheap - right? The Brits are considering the Glock to replace their all steel Browning Hi-Powers, but what the hell would they know? Must be to support the Austrian economy.

I gotta admit, this "my gun is better than your gun" drivel is slightly less obnoxious than the 9mm vs .45ACP debate, but only slightly.

Cleaning the metal...with just a wipe down does nothing that can "harm" the gun and same with pushing a few wet rags down the barrel.

Srubbing the #### outta the gun with bronze/brass brushes after the slightest use/constantly for no reason at all will do so.

I cleaned my C7 in the army approx. 30+ times before I ever even fired it...

X2, I lightly clean my SR9 with a couple of solvent patches(barrel) and rag(slide), then dry and wipe with patch and cloth, finishing up with G96.
A finishing touch is a bit of Tetra Gun Grease on the inside of the slide rail. No abuse there, just proper maintenance...

I agree that polymer is a part of modern day life, but nothing feel's better in the hand than an all-steel pistol. Ultimately plastic framed gun's can be built much cheaper than steel one's, and I'm sure when police agency's put out tender's for a large quantity of sidearm's the manufacturer's can offer the most attractive pricing on polymer pistol's. I sell product to the OPP, and trust me, they shop stuff out in order to get the best price and are not afraid to ask for a discount. I will say that a polymer gun does make sense for a police duty pistol that spends 99.9% of it's life in a holster for it's light weight and reduced cleaning/lubrication requirement's.

FWIW I own an SR9. I'm still trying to decide whether I like it or not, so it might wind up on the EE yet, but I will reserve judgement until I have shot it a bit more. I will say that it has functioned flawlessly thus far, and imho is a well put together firearm. It even shoot's reasonably well for me especially considering my limited trigger time with it.
