Ruger Stainless M77 Frontier in 308 availability

just ordered one for $825 from P&D Enterprises (p-d-ent.com). it was their last one but from what i gather they have no problems ordering them.

many of the other places i called - such as Epps - dont even have them in their catalogue anymore, so i fear that they are being discontinued or are not too popular. thats pretty much why i quickly ordered one more.

IMO they are an excellent gun. its a shame that many people are scared away by what they think will be drastic velocity loss, recoil, muzzle blash and flash.

btw - i dont know about buying one in a magnum caliber. a 16" barrel is about as low as i would go in a .308. taking most magnums down to a 16" barrel would reduce their performance so drastically that you may as well just buy the .308 instead.
that said, the .338 Federal looks very intriguing.

it is a cool cartridge, I look forward to playing with mine this spring

I doubt it will take off and sell, it isnt fast enough to attract the average inbred rifle buyer

luckily with the easy availability of .308 brass and the huge selection of .338 bullets it doesnt really matter if it takes off or not - its one of the things i like about the cartridge.
it would be nice to be able to just buy ammo at Wally-World™ though.

well with an ammo maker introducing it, maybe they will hold onto it for a while. Right now there is four loads out there, all by Federal. Pretty good choices too
