ruger super blackhawk opinion

the one I got to play with was a bit thick in the grips for my liking . I would also seriously consider finding a birdshead style frame .
the one I was playing with was a 44 mag with around a 7" barrel .

very solid well built gun .

Have a couple of them (.44 Mag.). Solid gun, good value, no issues, shoots straighter than I do. Trigger guard can be a bit abusive on your 2nd finger, if you're shooting "factory" or hot loads and you're not holding on, tight.

I prefer barrel lengths shorter than 7.5", and IMHO, you're less likely to get your knuckles rapped from heavy recoil if your gun has a round trigger guard, or has the flat back trigger guard modified. After the rear sight on mine failed in a spectacular fashion, after repeated firing with very heavy recoil, I consider the factory adjustable rear sight a weak link. Bowen Classic Arms sells an excellent sight they call the Rough Country Sight. In addition to this sight being made from stronger components, rather than a single adjustment screw with a spring loaded sight blade, the Rough Country is windage adjustable with opposing screws; so to adjust windage you back off one screw and advance the other. You can expect to get years of trouble free shooting with a SBH, with the exception of the rear sight, and even it shouldn't be a problem if you stick to moderate loads.

If your smacking your knuckles its because your holding it like a DA revolver.

To answer the OP question, you cant go wrong with a ruger blackhawk :)

Had one...sold it...wish I never did that. Now I find myself yearning for another one.Good solid revolver, you cant go wrong with one.

Mine was a 10". Quite an ill balanced beast to begin with. I could go for a shorter one, now that I've gotten away from stupid hot loads.

The version with the round trigger guard seems also to have a shorter grip frame. I wonder if it's simply a Blackhawk grip frame on those?

nothing a REDHAWK can't do better- I found the single action frustrating at times- now I shoot a stainless REDHAWK in both modes and the 5.5 inch is my favorite, even though the 7.5 is better balanced- I've got 2 what does that tell you?

The Hunter model has the best grip for a plow style. Long like the Dragoon style but with a round guard.
The Bisley's are all the same.

I have the 5.5 Redhawk too, and love it Had a couple of blackhawks in the past and although they were great guns, Single action just doesn't float my boat

The Redhawk and SRH are both good guns, but you can't spring the crane on a SA.

Had one, sold it, but still tempted whenever I see one, and will probably find myself owning another. I have plenty of DA revolvers, but there's just something special about single-actions. Cleanup is a bit easier too.
