Which do you prefer,
The super blackhawk or super blackhawk bisley?

Personally I prefer the look of the plow handle on the regular blackhawk but have heard the bisley is much nicer in the hand and much better for recoil. If anyone has experience with both what is your opinion.

I really want a regular super blackhawk in 454 but all that is really available is the bisley.... thinking of buying the bisley and swapping the grip frame and hammer with a regular super blackhawk.

I have a SBH in 44 mag and have to load light loads in it these days as having the little finger under the handle sucks. I shot a Bisley that was the same size as mine and it was a totally different experience. Up to you but if you plan on shooting full 454 loads I’d be getting the Bisley.
I’d be more than happy swapping mine out.
 
It is a larger grip. I don't like the look of it so much, but it does feel nice in the hand, and as said, you can get a good grip on it
 
I'm pretty much the same boat. I would love a plow-handle SBH 454. But purely because it looks better to me.

Trying to source a grip could be a pain unless you find a trade in Canada. I had a SBH 44 with a 4 5/8" barrel. The shorter barrelled SBHs have the smaller blackhawk frame which I found quite small and not very comfortable to hold. I tried to buy the larger SBH Hunter frame from the US but getting it up here would have been a headache. I have to admit though, shooting even the smaller gripped short barrelled SBH was a lot more comfortable than a short barrelled DA revolver like the 629 or Redhawk.

I'm warming up to the Bisley however. If I could find a 4 5/8 Bisley SBH in 454 i would jump on it. Not really a fan of those 6.5" Bisleys.

I am only interested in the 4 5/8 as well!
Think I may have found one.
And I agree, the hunter frame would be the way to go.

I use both styles & like the plow handle grip frame better as it will roll up in the hand using smooth grips & not bang the knuckle on the long finger like the bisley. Wearing a shooting glove when shooting the bigger bore bisley gun helps too. JMHO.

Interesting. I have not shot a heavily loaded Bisley. Always wonder why on the one hand many custom makers swear by the Bisley grip frames for their biggest calibers, whereas Freedom Arms uses the plow handle and they are apparently very controllable. Maybe some subtle differences in design combined with personal preference.

I never had any knuckle issues with the Bisley with round trigger guard I shot but sure did with the SBH that had the dragoon style square trigger guard. My 5 1/2” SBH is a big handful with full 44 magnum loads but I guess I’m just a wimp these days.
 
I just bought a super blackhawk off a great fellow member here... I'm going to buy a bisley 454 and do the conversion and then sell the 44 super blackhawk in a bisley converted state :)

Getting my 454 from prophet river.... it's amazing how good those guys are. Every time I shop there I walk away happy !!
