Hi all,

Picked up one of my bucket list guns before the Liberals closed the door on transfers. Now I need to get some ammo for it.

Ruger .44 Rem Mag Super Redhawk with 7.5" barrel. What do people like using in these? Would appreciate recommendations for plinking, target, and (purely hypothetical) bear defence rounds.

Bonus points if you have a pet handload recipe to share. I'll be picking up some dies soon I think.

Thanks

Nice gun. If you reload, that's definitely the way to go - you can make them way cheaper than buying "factory" - the current costs for components, not-withstanding. I use "Long Shot" (Hodgdon) with a 210 gn bullet for more civilized loads and Win. 296/Hodgdon H110 (same burn rate)and your standard 240 gn bullet (both plated), if I want to have some "thumpers". Use the Hodgdon site for your min/max loads.

Congrats on the new wheel gun, they’re very cool and overbuilt enough t last you a lifetime, enjoy!

Pick up some buffalo bore .44mag +P+ rounds, the super redhawk can handle those hot loads and they really hit home you’re firing a hand cannon.
