Ruger takedown 10/22 - accuracy really that poor?

Okay since I got a good bit of flak from those that doubt the rifles capabilities ............I shot a few more 5 round groups to show what the gun is capable of with Federal Champion 40 grain lead round nose.
I said a dime in my first post, but a NICKEL or better is what I shot for this set of groups.
If your rifle shoots poorly keep trying different ammunition and adjust the barrel ring till you get desired results.
Seems good to me. Nice shooting.

Barrel attachment nut tension is critical to good groups. I have shot a few of these and own two. They are on par with none takedown models.

i picked up a Chiappa Little Badger, a Ruger Takedown, Marlin Papoose and a Henry AR7 and have been testing them side by side for the last year.
for accuracy the Lil Badger won followed closely by the Ruger TD.
the Papoose is or has been complete garbage for accuracy - im chalking it up to a lemon - it happens with every brand, but some have said the new issue Marlin Papooses are no where near the accuracy of the years before Marlin was bought out by Remington.
AR7 which is a neat gun came in last for accuracy.
out of the 4 the Lil badger lives in my Quad and comes out with me every time im out, either for work or play.
my Ruger TD is gaining ground and i really like it, i got it for a hell of a steal on sale as well.
the Papoose is gonna be put away or safe parked, i dont expect to ever use it again, maybe one of my kids will take a liking too it.
the AR7 is going in either of my boats (power and inflatable) whenever i got out boating just for the simple fact that it floats for a bit and is all plastic.
just my hands on testing and experience that i have found over the last year, hope some of it helps you.

HI. If you find the take down not to your likening, what about the youth 10/22 with short stock and 16 inch barrel. As to triggers try the Ruger aftermarket one from Ruger. At just over 100 dollars I found it great for general use.
I've owned my takedown for 3 years now. It wasn't always as accurate as I'd like. But I ended up buying the BX trigger upgrade from Ruger when the was on sale. I also tinkered with the bolts on the takedown lock, now its reasonably repeatable after assembly/disassembly, out to 50yrd. Every now and then I have to make small adjustments on my red dot.
It really amazes me that it has taken the after market so long to come up with barrel-mounted optics options for the 10/22TD. In my opinion TomEGun has the best setup in that he has gone with pretty much every barrel-mounted optic option available. Most of us just can't afford all those aftermarket barrels!
My TD shoots all over the map unless I shoot it without pressure on the fore end, supporting it just ahead of the trigger. Might try the new Magpul Backpacker x22 stock with optic mount, but it's SOOO expensive. Ruger really should come up with a dovetail mount for small optic to replace the rear sight. Or else a good gunsmith come up with a small scout mount. The Amega ranges mount looks interesting, but I don't think it's secure enough to be accurate.

Mine works great - I hit what I'm aiming at, within reason. Barrel tension, as mentioned is critical as is the stock/receiver screw tension (mines happiest at 25 inch pounds, which required some fiddling to find out). Oh yes, and of course don't use crap ammo and expect match grade results - the "bucket of bullets" stuff really is worth less than Mini Mag.
