Ruger Ultralight vs Browning Micro Medallion

Contemplating one of the above in .308 (Getting older need light gun) I like the short action and .308 would serve my needs for white-tails or moose when the occasion arises --- how do they compare for accuracy/quality -- impressions?
 
I've had both, and highly suspect you'd keep the Ruger longer. It's a higher quality gun, and has much better support for parts or warranty if needed (not likely, it's a Ruger). You're also gaining an excellent controlled round feed action, and far better safety design for hunting than the Browning. Plus, you get free rings with an excellent integral mounting system. Not a fair comparison between these two makers.
 
I bought a Ruger ultralight in stainless & 30-06 two years ago & love it. Shoots any load tried under 1 inch. Being so light it is not quite as good for off hand shooting as some of my heavier guns, but is the only rifle I ever carry now. I shoot 308 level handloads with 165 Noslers . My original plan was to replace the plastic stock with a wood one, but I found I like the feel of it as is & it makes such a good boat gun.
 
I have owned a Browning Micro Medallion in .308 for over twenty years. It is the only rifle I have never sold, out of hundreds. It is accurate, has a beautiful trigger and a joy to carry. :)
 
I am still really, REALLY, sad that I sold my Browning Medallion in .223 in a time of dire financial need. Hope to get it back soon. Love my Rugers too, but that Browning shot the damn lights out.
 
for a new off the rack deer rifle on the lighter end of the spectrum I wouldn't pick either one.

I'd get a new Model 70 Fwt and put a set of Talleys and a 2.5-8X Leupold on top and call it good....very good.

Set up this way a long action will be pretty much an even 8lbs...a short action about 4 ounces less.
 
Though I am more of a Ruger fan, I do have a micro medallion from the 90's (in 7mm-08) that is beautifully built, always accurate, carried on many, many multi day hunts and I've shot a lot of game with it! This ones on the never sell list...
 
Ive owned a micro medallion in 284win for 20 years as well. Browning triggers arent as good as a winchester or a remington but they do have some features that make it desirable, DM, 60 degree bolt throw and tang safety which I like. My rifle is accurate and easy to pack around. I also own a model 70 EW in 7mm08 and it is a very nice rifle, but doesnt outshoot my micro. I dont have any experience with rugers but Im sure they are nice as well. I've never had an issue with my micro. Regards Pete.

Are you talking A-Bolt or X-Bolt?
