Ruger Vaquero

I've had a 'few' Ruger SA's and will probably get 'more' but one of the few variations available I'm not particularly fond of is the Bisley or the Bisley grip. A friend of mine used to collect Rugers and for 'shooters' he swears by the Bisley grip. Somehow, it just doesn't 'look right', to me.

i used to think the same way till i tried the bisley model. i tend to agree with you that it doesn't look right, but it sure feels right, at least to me....

camp cook,... great pair of bisley's. those grips are especially nice with the stainless....:)

Personally, I wouldn't trade a 586 for a Vaquero.

Right, it's comparing apples and oranges - keep the 586 especially if it's a no dash. Suffer like the rest of us and wait to buy the Ruger. It will mean more to you & you'll still have the Smith. Or you could disregard the previous advice like I did and do it the old fashioned way - Master Card....

ruger single actions are fine guns & are my personal favorite.
you will find a few in my collection...

these are the original vaqueros in .44 mag., & the bisley one is in .45 colt.
you won't find a better quality single action for the money, they are fun to
shoot & fondle.

sure i too have smiff & westerns & the older ones without the lock are the ones to have, but those ruger single actions are #1 in my book!

go for it, you won't be sorry....:)

A few Vaq's?? I can see why your trader rating is O.........You don't want to part with any of those baby's!!

Thank you the grips are actually factory Ruger and the the first factory Ruger grips of their kind ever sold into Canada by Ruger.

Took a bit of haggeling to get Ruger to agree to sell them too me...

The felt recoil especially with heavy 300gr + top velocity loads is completely different with the Bisley grips allowing the gun to rotate up instead of straight back into the web of your hand with a Vaquero.

The other features that I prefer on the Bisley over the Vaquero is that the hammer is far easier to reach and thus #### when shooting one handed because it is lower and the trigger is far more curved almost a 1/2 moon.

I'll take a Bisley everytime... :D

I have two 5 1/2" RV's in .45 I use for CAS.:D
Strong guns with little to go wrong.
They may need to be "tuned" a little, to obtain the correct POA/POI, at least mine did.:(
At the risk of putting a curse on mine, I'll say that I've watched a number of fellow posse members have problems with the functioning of their non-Rugers. I have never seen funtioning issues with any of the Rugers used by posse members, other than the high primer issue I had with some of my own reloads:redface:
As to price, I have seen them sell, used, for as little as $350.00 (my first one three years ago from Marc at the Stittsville Range) to $500.00 + here on the EE. :jerkit:
I don't know if they got that much.:runaway:
The view from my saddle anyway. Your mileage may differ.
