Like many others I fell victim to the allure of the $259 Ruger Wranglers that were on sale at Rangeview Sports last week. I ended up going with black, well because black is the new black. Now I am in search of some aftermarket grips, which is proving to be quite the challenge. I am not to familiar with the world of SAA revolvers and which grips fit on what but from my very minimal research I have learned that the grip frame is the XR3-RED and as such any grips for the XR3-RED should fit. The trouble is finding some that are in stock and will ship to Canada.

Any one have any suggestions? What are you using or planning to use?
I'd also be interested in hearing some reviews and range reports.
Perhaps this can be the unofficial Wrangler owners thread.

I would like to get a set like thses from Alamont...

IIRC, the XR3-RED grip size are the old model Vaquero / Blackhawk series.

Here's a link to a website with info on Ruger grip size info:

NAA.

Hmm haven't even thought of upgrading the grips on mine. Wasn't even sure if i want to keep it but might just do so since not like i can get much for it lol. It is cool enough of a toy anyway .

Ruger sells aftermarket grips and Snapshots in Quebec who deals in Canada may have them. I recently ordered a new rubber insert for my GP100 so they may have what you want in stock. As for size anything that will fit a new model Single Six, new model Vaquero or new model Blackhawk will work. I may have a spare set of wood grips to trade.

I have always wanted a Wrangler and a few weeks ago finally got to try a friends burnt bronze model at the range. I noticed handling the Wrangler that I would #### the hammer and then de #### it and the cylinder would jam part way and then the hammer would not re ####. Perhaps it was just his. When loaded up with live ammo it would #### and fire just fine though and was very enjoyable and accurate to shoot. I ended up running into another friend who had a new model Single Six for a price that I couldn't refuse so went with that instead. From what I have been reading about the Wranglers you will not regret purchasing it at all.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I ended up ordering some from Brownells, they had some nice rosewood ones for a decent price and I needs some other bits from them any ways. Altamont got back to me and stated that they didn't have any of the Rosewoods pictured in my OP coming any time soon.
My Wrangler is set to arrive on Wednesday, can't wait. I'll up date this thread with my initial impressions and a range report.

I finally receive the Hogue Rosewood grips I order from Brownell's, cleared customs in less than 24hrs! I'm pretty happy with them. Can't complain for $29 usd.

I'll have her out to the range this week.

OP do you have a link for those grips from brownells? Interested.

Here is the link. Looks like they have gone up in price since I ordered the. Keep an eye on them as I find the prices of stuff on Brownell's can fluctuate quite a bit with our rhyme or reason

I wanted the Altamont grips but they are not in stock and they stated that they did not know when they would have more.
Truthfully, finding grips that I like, that were in stock AND ship to Canada was very challenging.

I was checking out Gungrip.com. They have some interesting grips for the Wrangler. They do ship most to Canada with some exceptions of wood types and real ivory restricted.

Well I had a chance to get this little wheel gun out to the range. Now I'll be the first to say that I am not too savy at shooting SA revolvers so there was a bit of a learning curve, in fact there were a few shots where I definitely forgot to #### the hammer. But over all I think I was starting to get the hang of it. I put around 100 rounds of the Winchester bulk thru it and it is a blast to shoot!, literally. There is no recoil, which I should have known. I tried various different methods of shooting such as cocking with my right (firing) had but I found this completely disrupted my sight picture, I then switched to cocking with my left (support) hand and was able to some what maintain my sight picture. The whole experience is rewarding, the loading, the slow but cool unloading, then the slow but fun reloading. It kind forces you to slow down and smell the roses so to speak. The front sight is awful, which is to be expected but challenging which I like. Below is one of my better groups, which I am not proud of but I am very happy at the challenge of learning to shoot this well.

Anyone else received their Wranglers yet? Lets see some pics and hear how they have shot for you so far!

Now you need to check into Cowboy Action Shooting! You'll be shooting old west style handguns, shotguns and lever action rifles.
