Ruger77/22 bolt action

I recently acquired a Ruger 77/22 bolt action rifle, and I have a question. If anybody would like to share answers, that would be helpful.
Question is- the bolt ( empty chamber) seems unusually hard to close and release to cycle the bolt again. ( firearm seems to be well looked after and clean) any thoughts?

I had a Ruger 77 in 22 Magnum - I do not recall the bolt operation to be difficult or note worthy. Do you feel the "unusual hard to close" when you push the bolt forward to chamber a round, or do you feel that "unusual hard to close" when the bolt handle is rotated down to lock up?

Hi thanks for your response. No the bolt moves in and out just fine , it is only hard to move the bolt handle in the down lockup or upward unlock position, once the handle gets to its upright position the bolt moves freely in and out of the breach. To travel the bolt handle to lock and unlock in the bolt handle recess in the stock is where I'm concerned. It appears to require way to much foot pounds of energy to lock in and out

Cean out the extractor grooves. Then add some grease/oil to face of the locking lug.

Might be a little dry.

Hi, I did think of this, there is none present, I was wondering if shims would correct this problem?

The previous owner may have added a bolt shim. It's a very thin stainless steel washer used to tighten up the gap between the bolt halves.

I did look for that, it's shim free. Thanks for your reply
