Looks like another nice addition to the Ruger line up. I might actually buy one of these when it comes here to Canada. Interesting write up and he mentions there will be a follow up review with benchrest accuracy testing soon. It also looks like the mag isn't compatible with any other firearm and is only specific to this one.
 
Just noticed another thread on this gun has been already started a couple of days ago. Wierd, I did a search before starting this one and I never got a hit.
 
Myself I can't really see the point of one. For anything combat related a semi is far preferred and for hunting it isn't quite accurate enough and theres a hundred other guns out there which would do a better job, and a 10rd mag? If after 5 you can't hit it you better go back the range. I'm sure they'll be fun and everything but not a must buy from my opinion.
 
I do not know how many times I have been caught reloading a empty mag to watch a nice buck walked past me.
Here we hunt hard and fast sum times there is no time to refill your magazine
Everyone here kills a lots of deer every year not just one or two a year more like 10, and up every year.
The 10 round magazine on the old Lee Enfield's were great and handy as hell.
When it comes right down to it I will hunt with any rifle or any caliber and I will still get more than 10 deer every year.
How many did you get last year how many in your lifetime?

Combat? Who here is going into combat? Irrelevant.
Not accurate enough? Why should it be any less accurate than any other factory hunting rifle?
10 round magazine? Really handy for cold weather. No need to handle loose rounds. This was a great advantage to the Lee Enfield. Magazine is detachable. If a shorter magazine were desired, that could be arranged.

A peep sight instead of the more common open sight? Great idea!

The flash hider is a problem. Makes export problematic. A brake would solve that.
 
You guys are really shooting deer so fast you can't reload after 5rds? If so this sounds like a great rifle for you, almost like shooting invading zombies except you can eat them. The magazine I was reading was saying it averaged 2inches which is fine for deer however there's plenty of other shorter guns more accurate then that. As well the GSR was designed for the gunsite school which is a COMBAT shooting school. I guess the one good use I can think of is for wardens when they want the firepower but not the black look. However you are talking to a guy who uses a #1 International in 243 for pretty much everything shy of elk/moose. Get one let me/us know that you think. and yes the peep site is hugely better.

First off I'm Haida Indian perfectly legal to shoot as many deer as I like.
Secondly anyone can get tags for 15 deer here!
I have killed 23 deer in 12 hours hunt and like I said I use any rifle regardless what it is or who makes it!
If you do not think that shooting, and dressing that many deer in one day isn't a lot of work you must be Superman.
I would not like the 10 round magazine for Moose but for hunting deer I say yes, great idea.
Nothing wrong with a good old single shot I used them wonderful rifles.
 
23 deer in one day! If they're all be eaten the harvest is sustainable more power to you! 23 would be a lot of work no matter who you are! You might just put this rifle to work by the sounds of it.

I only keep seven for my family.
The rest goes to the elderly and single mothers.
I do not consider hunting as a sport or recreation it is just about filling the freezers!

Do you have concerns about the negative impact on the deer population due to the black bear quota for the QCI's being cut to 4 bears?

The biggest threat is not bear qoutas though it's a shame that a bad hunting guide and Hunter would ruin it for you guys!
I do not like the you tubevideo of the Hunter wounding and blasting away at that black bear but I do not think it's fair to paint everyone as cruel but that is just my opinion.
Moose qoutas have the biggest impact here because as it gets harder for tags more hunters come each year.
Not that the little deer are less just a lot more skittish those little buggers move fast!
 
What I mean about the bears is that since the bear quota has been capped at 4 (virtually eliminating bear hunting on the QCI if you are not a Haida) do you worry that the bear population will increase to a point where deer predation will become a serious issue and the deer population suffers?

Bears arent' nearly as efficient predators of deer that wolves are, but they can certainly play hell on the fawn populations.

I am Haida!
It is terrible that they stop bear hunting on the island.
Soon we will start having conflicts between people and bear the deer will be just fine.
Not really that many people that understand bears anymore.
