Ruger's Gunsite Scout 308

I am Haida!
It is terrible that they stop bear hunting on the island.
Soon we will start having conflicts between people and bear the deer will be just fine.
Not really that many people that understand bears anymore.

I realize you are Haida, what I mean is that most of the bear hunters that traveled to QCI's were white guys, and they won't be hunting bears, reducing the population, so I was wondering if they would start eating more fawns.

Agree 100% that human/bear conflicts will increase. Probably end up with more bears dead than if hunting was retained.

It's all politics and nothing to do with conservation.

You guys are really shooting deer so fast you can't reload after 5rds? If so this sounds like a great rifle for you, almost like shooting invading zombies except you can eat them. The magazine I was reading was saying it averaged 2inches which is fine for deer however there's plenty of other shorter guns more accurate then that. As well the GSR was designed for the gunsite school which is a COMBAT shooting school. I guess the one good use I can think of is for wardens when they want the firepower but not the black look. However you are talking to a guy who uses a #1 International in 243 for pretty much everything shy of elk/moose. Get one let me/us know that you think. and yes the peep site is hugely better.

Actually, Jeff Cooper designed the Scout concept as a do anything rifle, and hunted with a number of them of his design, which the ruger emulates very well, except for the unfortunate lack of stripper feeding. You can have them with 5 round mags if you like.

Also, correcting the second error, while gunsite does focus on mondern combat shooting, they also offer excellent courses dedicated to hunting rifle craft and another in dangerous game riflecraft. Take a look at their course outline some time, they really do have something for everyone.

Personally, if i was a warden and wanted more power, i'd just get a bar and get the 10 round mag extension aftermarket, or a remmy pump. less money.

Do like those #1's, very fun rifle, and good choice for caliber. Nice to see the whole world hasn't caught magnumitis.....who new moose would ever get so much tougher? My uncle used to bring em home with a 30-30 every year.....now you need a 375 super ultra short super magnum.....maybe they eat kevlar now........

I dunno about this one. I got a Weatherby with 20" barrel, and is pretty flexible. For fast shooting, I got a Remy pump, BAR and M14.

I dunno just what the point is with this one. The 10 shot clip would be a no-no anyways and would be pinned or otherwise fixed.

So again, what is the point anyway, other than the "cool, now I just gotta have one...'cause G&A and Rifleshooter featured articles on them"?

Um no?

Only semi auto centrefires must be pinned. Pump, lever, bolt can have as big a clip as you want.

The magazine was designed and manufactured to be used in an autoloading rifle?
And, as already mentionned, the rifle does not accept clips, which was one of Cooper's suggestions for a scout rifle.

sobo4303,

These are clips:

who ever thought a mainstream manufacturer would do something right ?!

to me its a bolt action M14 .. so i have to have one

I use to have a Steyer Scout. It was a great rig when we had a 5 caribou season in the NWT. I sold it when the season reduced to two bulls.

Leafing through a magazine at the local stand the Ruger wasn't that accurate in the test results. I'll wait and see on this one.

well i got to handle one.. nice little rig.. the sights are great.. i could hunt without optics happily, and the rear apeture is open enough that it would still work in low light.
the mag is stamped "accurate mag" with a ruger stamp on the baseplate.

the versions we are getting done have the flash hider ( only god knows why ) .. and they are parked grey like the Norc M14s
