Ruger's re-engineered Mini-14

strange..................my issue of rifle shooter has it shooting hornady ammo, five shot group..........four shots just under an inch and one flyer opened the group up to 1 7/8 at 115 yards. it didnt like some of the other ammo but ive never heard of ruger claiming the mini as a target rifle

Read an article in Guns&Ammo (Dec 06 I think). They where testing the same gun in the picture, I guess Ruger is calling that the "Target" version. But the article said that Ruger has re-tooled the entire production line for the Mini 14. This was going to address the accuracy issues. Hope they found some success

We hear this every year or 2, as a mini-lover I hope its true.....:dancingbanana:

of course they will probably be $1400 or so if its true.

I think its funny when it comes to bashing the mini-14 you all come out of the woodwork ,but I gave statistical data to prove that its better than many of your favorite guns and NO ONE comments

I have an open mind. I missed your previous posts about its merits.
Could you provide the info again?
Thanks!

It's really no trick to get a Mini-14 to shoot 1.5 moa consistently. That last half inch to true moa accuracy is a bit tougher to achieve, but it's surely do-able.

Out of three that I currently have (one stainless and two blued 'standard' versions, as opposed to Ranch Rifles) one groups right around the 1" mark, and the other two hover around 1.5 in. I think I could get the latter two to do better as well, but I just haven't had the time to spend on them.
All it takes is the time and elbow grease to (a) lap the bore (b) lap the gas block into place (c) torque the gas block screws correctly and (d) bed it properly into the stock to relieve any twists and binds.

Another overlooked issue is ammo. For some reason, people seem to expect Mini-14s to shoot well with the cheapest crap they can buy - and then complain when they don't. I wonder how many people have actually taken the time to work up a load for a Mini-14? On the other hand, a lot of guys get a woody if their gun just goes "bangbangbangbangbang", so maybe it doesn't matter...
