Rugged hunting rifle suggestions

I think you're the first guy to complain about the accuracy of the 200. I bought one several years ago as a beater for just what you mentioned in the original post. Surprise surprise it shoots well sub MOA with my 180gr Partition hunting load every time.

But if you want something newer you probably can't go wrong with the Hawkeye.

You may be right , I'm sure it outshoot' me , I'm just looking for an excuse to buy something nicer and smoother.

Mosin M38.

Most of them were issued to "in the rear with the gear" troops and weren't much used, so they still have good rifling and are plenty accurate. Will drop any game in North America. Cheap to feed them. Unkillable rifle. Surprisingly lightweight, especially for the era of rifle. Carbine length, so quick and easy pointing.

He wanted a rifle, not a bayonet handle or crow bar :p

I believe Mystic Precision had a video on CGN where he tied a Savage Axis to a rope and pulled it behind his quad bouncing it over all kinds of terrain....got some bruises but still worked!

Ruger Hawkeye or CZ 550 is my vote as stupid reliable and tough. I'm sure the Zastava would be as well, just never owned one.

I lean more towards the 550 just because I like them more for various reasons.

I'm sort of surprised that nobody has mentioned the good ol' Lee Enfield. Drop it, kick it, drag through the mud. They've certainly stood the test of time. Just a thought.

I recently got a Ruger M77 and like it. It seems to be exactly what I have always read: plain Jane and functional. Tikka T3 is attractive for the stated purpose also. Nothing against other options people suggested, but I would be choosing between these two models. Pick them up, shoulder them and see how they feel. Compare available configurations also. GL!

I have an Zastava M85 Stutzen stock... Strikes me as quite durable and reliable, but I can't get to recommending it (yet) because I only got it a few months ago and so far it's only traveled to the range with me.

Great trigger (once adjusted), solid action, accurate. I see no reason why it won't be a rock, just can't say for sure that it will be until I drag it through the mud a few times.

I own both a Sauer 200 in .270 and a Tikka. Both rifles deadly accurate.
Sauer has nice Walnut stock and deep bluing.
Tikka has synthetic Stock and Stainless barrel. You would be very happy with either one.
My Moose hunting buddies at Camp shoot Moose with the following rifles:
.270, 30.06, 7mm mag, 338 Wm...All make one shot kills, so take your choice.
Try one of the above out at your club and see which one you prefer.
Not much difference in killing power. Heart & lung shots always fill a freezer.

I'll let you know when my "plastic fantastic" Tikka T3's break... likely not in my lifetime. I highly recommend then to anyone. Go 270 or 30-06 and you're all set for anything. However, as lowly as some people think they are, an SKS loaded with quality commerical hunting cartridges, used within its range limitations, is just about as rugged and reliable as they come! I have many, and they are fine rifles. No problem for deer under 75 yards.

I picked up a M70 extreme weather for the same reasons.I had been eyeballing the Ruger m77 but the Winchester was on sale so I went for it.I want to add a M70 extreme weather in 30/06 to the safe too, real compact rig for hauling around.

I believe you are on the right track, allow me to give you a final push.
