When I am walking out of the bush when bow hunting I use the 20" length of rope I have to lower my compound bow to the ground to wrap around the bow and make it totaly unuseable as it would take a minuite ot two to unwrap and get an arrow ready. When I am out bird hunting, after dark I take my side by side apart, put the fore end in my pocket and drape the sling around my neck. Barrel hangs from one end of the sling and the reciever/butstock hangs from the other. Im not sure if the CO would give this the OK but I would be willing to fight any fine in court as both examples in my opinion show intent to make the bow/shotgun unable to fire. This is what I have done for many years but so far I have had no after dark run ins with a CO.

We have a similar rule here in NB. It's not the finest feeling in the world, walking back to your Jeep after a nighttime bear hunt, with your gun unloaded and cased up, and the woods cracking around you...

Its a stupid law no doubt. I only break it while bear hunting because often I hunt over bait and hunt untill last legal light. I'd take my chance at a fine over meeting a hungry bear in the dark on my way out. Been there done that now I walk with my 12ga until I can see my quad.

As per hunting regs, yes.
From the hunting regs:
Firearms
Firearms include rifles, shotguns, air or pellet guns, bows and
crossbows. You may use semi-automatic or repeating firearms for
hunting in Ontario, but not handguns that are restricted or prohibited firearms or fully automatic firearms. Air and pellet pistols
with a muzzle velocity less than 152 metres (500 feet) per second
may be used for hunting in Ontario (see restrictions on page 22).

If you consider "shooting time"="legal light" then:
"Legal light" is 1/2 hour after sunset. In other words you are allowed to hunt till 1/2 hour after the sunset. 10min after sunset=OK. 10min after "legal light"= NOT OK
Nor are some hunters.
In other words, no parts of the firearm should be exposed/accessible at any time. Gun sock with the string tightened=OK.
One way to avoid hassle is to go this site Sunrise/Sunset Calculator
and calculate the sunrise-sunset time for your area, then print it out. Take the paper with you during the hunt.
Another way is taking the current newspaper with you, if the newspaper has the sunrise-sunset time published.
