how much will run out affect accuracy?

i have some rem .223 brass that is 4 times fired, these cases needed trimming again so i set up my drill with my lee case trimmer, when i spun the cases on the drill some of them seemed to have excessive run out


i don't have a run out gauge so i don't really know how much i have

any info on how much run out you can have and if there is an easy way to check or correct this would be appreciated
 
I would be suspicious of either your drill or of the spud that holds the cartridge case in the drill for the observed runout, The Lee trimmer is very difficult to set up so the case spins dead straight, and requires endless fiddling with the position of the case on the spud to get there.

Its pretty tough to gauge runout without a runout gauge. If your brass was reasonably concentric when you first loaded it, it isn't likely to have changed. The brass should show almost zero runout after firing and prior to resizing, but the resizing and bullet seating steps potentially increases runout, but it takes a very accurate rifle to see the effects of runout. So if your quarter minute rifle is shooting half minute groups, it might be worth looking into, but otherwise your time and energy can be better spent acquiring a more user friendly case trimmer.

That is NO indication of run out when spinning in a Lee Collet.

The true test is an actual runout gauge. Some are bad, some are good, and some appear to be GREAT.

I do not worry about checking runout, I let the targets tell the tales for me.
 
thanks guys, i wont worry about it for now and load these up and see how they shoot,

i think i will invest in a better trimmer soon
