Running Out Of Windage

Merry Christmas, Guys and Gals...…...not sure if this is the right place to post but here goes. I figured I'd treat myself to a new hunting rig for Christmas (Christmas is an excuse) so I came on to Gunnuts and found a caliber I've never owned in a model I've never owned. Did the same with the scope, so both items were bought of two quality GNers……….the gun is a Kimber 84L in a 280ai which came with a set of Talleys installed. The scope is a Zeiss Conquest in a silver matte finish to match the gun.

Of course I couldn't wait till Christmas to surprise myself and of course I had to leave feedback so both packages were opened ahead of time. I carefully mated the two together, which went smoothly and when I went to bore sight I ran out of windage adjustment....I figured "darn it" so I took the scope off and centred the scope and reinstalled and same problem. This wasn't sitting well with me so I took another scope an installed and same thing...….running out on windage adjustment. Went on line and one solution is to buy a set Leopold bases with the windage screws, which would mean a set of rings as well, which is no big deal. BUT before I do that, have others encountered this problem? Could my bore sighter be at fault? It's very consistent and its the same with both scopes. I spoke to the seller of the gun and he's been fantastic and said he never had the problem I'm experiencing.

I want to be able to shoot as little ammo as possible to sight in and fire a test group (maximum 5 shots normally). Ammo is 89.00 a box at Cabelas and they only had two boxes.

If you're running out of windage then it is 100% your bases are not aligned. Leupold windage adjustable bases are a good fix. To rule out your boresighter, do an old fashioned look down the barrel boresighting to see if your bore and optics are truly out of sync.

Have had several browning A bolts & all seem to run out of windage with normal rings. I now use Burris Signature rings with the plus/minus inserts and windage as well as ring marks are no longer an issue. I have never liked tally rings and will not use them on anything.

Leupold adjustable bases and rings. The type with the twist in dovetail front.

Turn your scope windage to find the center of the adjustment. Then use the adjustable rear base to center it, leaves the internal fine adjustment.

Yes, its a expense. However, once your satisfied, sell your existing bases and rings, recover the cost. A side benefit, this is why the rifle was sold, so its not been shot much.

Recenter the windage adjustments in the scope, then mount it in a set of windage adjustable Leupolds or Conetrols. Controls look nice but the Leupolds are easier to boresight the windage with only adjusting the mounts.

Thanks for the responses guys, I've ordered the rings and bases I need to rectify my problem. In my research, that was the solution that was recommended and was looking for more hands on feedback, which I received...Thanks again.

Just an update, I ordered and received the Leopold rings and bases from Prophet River all installed and bore sighted now, ready for range session. Thanks all for the advice...…...now fingers crossed that its a shooter......
