This happened to me last week:

Recoil was normal, bullet hit the target accurately, only sign was smoke coming out from every gaps on the gun. I had gas shut off on the gun at the time, so I manually extracted the brass and noticed the ruptured case. Took the gun apart, no visible damage anywhere. Gun shots fine afterward.

Headstamp is CJ96 (Norinco brass), 23.9 gr of H335, using campro 55 gr FMJ, seated to 2.250", and well crimped. This batch of brass are twice reloaded.

Only thing suspicious of was this brass had a different sharpie marking on the case head, which means it probably was a range pick up that has been reloaded by someone before me. Did I just hit a piece of brass that has been reloaded too many times? If it's head separation shouldn't the rupture be the other direction? What else could've cause a case failure like this?

Also I noticed some of my brass has vertical scratches, presumably from when the bolt is riding over it when it sits in the mag? Could that have caused weakness in the case wall?
