I was just going through my 300 Win brass today as I'm going to have to get reloading lest I have no ammo this fall. I came across this thing of beauty.

Didn't even know I'd ruptured a primer until I saw it now. Nothing bad to say about the Model 70's gas handling system after seeing that.

FWIW the load was a 180 gr Nosler Protected Point Partition backed by 73gr of IMR 4831 and a CCI 250 primer all in a once (or twice) fired Federal Nickel plated case.
 
The odd time you get a pinhole in the side of the primer or a scratch when seating it--will result in a leak like that. From the appearance of the other primers it does not look to be a pressure-related issue.

I have had this happen from time to time--usually can relate it to a particular lot of primers.

Looks like it may have been a bit hotter, but also if loaded more than a few times, the pocket gets loose. Were some of the primers a bit too easy to seat?
I'm not a big fan of Nickel cases, maybe another reason right there.

44Bore stated it exactly as I would have, usually related to a particular batch of primers. The load is definitely not a warm one in any 300 Win Mag I have ever loaded for, and indeed there are no high pressure signs whatsoever. This occurrence can actually cut the boltface slightly, depending on the angle of gas escape. Probably no harm done. Regards, Eagleye.
 
I'd have been more concerned if it had happened more than once. Could easily have resulted from a flaw in the primer cup.

Exactly, a way to check that would be to prime that case, and get a feel for how easy the primer seats, with the same brand of primer that is. My guess is it will seat real easy:D
