Picked up a Vostok Margolin target pistol with the original wooden presentation box. The gun has original adjustable sights and to me it's seems to be in fairly good condition, other than it probably needs a good cleaning. Can anyone tell me an approximate value for one of these? Can't seem to find any posts on it when I tried searching. Thanks, Mark.

If I'm not mistaken, these are the ones that TradeEx were selling, awhile back.
I think they were going for around $250, sans case.

I've got one - great little gun, fun and accurate. They were going for $199 with one mag. Extra mags aren't easy to find. With a complete presentation box and extra bits, a bit more depending on condition. They're still being made by Baikal.

Thanks for the info on the pistol. I guess I'll have to take it to the range and shoot it before I decide if I'm going to sell it off.

Try some CCI standard, winchester T22 or other (half decent, at least) standard velocity in it when you test it out. It is as accurate as anything you will find. They are unconventional, but excellent pistols. It does not have a safety or a slide hold open, but neither are necessary for target work.

I have been using one for bullseye for the last 3 years and it has been superb. I have a hand made barrel weight, match grips and a recoil buffer in mine. Mine is a newer one (2003) and I made a new trigger return spring for it. I modelled the spring after one of the older pistols and it reduced the trigger weight to a good level.

There have been a lot of them brought in to Canada and while you can't get parts new I have seen lots of them at gun shows. A buddy of mine has different rear and front sights, different weight springs, etc. all picked up at gun shows. The parts are out there. Mine came with 2 magazines, but I picked up 2 spares for $10 each. I am confident that if you did want a spare magazine for it a WTB ad on the EE would get you one easily.

Have a look at this article http://toyfj40.freeshell.org/GunPix/Margolin.html

It may give you a deeper appreciation for what you have. The pistol's inventor was blind, which explains many of its features.

Mark, maybe try a box or two of these in your Russian target pistol?
Recommended ammunition for competition:
-SK Standard Plus: 1050 fps
-SK Special Match Pistol (slightly higher velocity for operating the slide) 1175 fps
Uhm, these don't come cheap though. Standard Plus presently runs about $55 per 500 brick.
-Federal Standard Velocity for practice, IIRC about $30 per brick. I say for practice only because they were barely acceptable @25 yards & at @50, well pretty bad performance out of my pistol. I use this Federal for informal practice in my BSA Martini rifle now.

Nothing is written in stone though. Especially with rimfire it seems.
