Russian captures k98k's

Epps has a RC that is at the $700 mark. I have seen RC Kar98ks go for no lower than $500 on the EE with some touching the $600 mark. I think the days of the $400 Kar98k are long gone. Importing with a total cost of ~ $420, there is still margin for money to be made and for collectors to be satisfied.

I don't think I have seen an appropriately priced RC Kar98k sit on the EE for more than a few days, many seem to sell within an hour of the ad being posted.

Mind you, I have only been in the market for two years so I am no expert.

That one at Epps from what I understand, has sold.
I need to find the years 1940 and 1945 to have at least one example from each of the war years. An RC would do nciely, but even decent examples of these have been difficult to obtain lately.
JP, are you saying from what you know, any decent examples in Ukranian or Russian stores are long gone?
Thanks for the information:)

- If you keep digging in a mine, eventually the ore will run out. Dealers have been digging these mines for close to 20 years now !

- If people are willing to pay $500.00 for rifles in Poor to Good condition, maybe WestRifle can try to bring some in, eventually everything sells.

I think a lot of folks are turned off these rifles due to an inconsistent application of the NRA grading guidelines. You never know what you get until the rifle arrives in the mail with the exception of specific dealers like JP and Weimajack (I trust their descriptions). At least with a M48Bo you know the rifle is going to be a nice shooter. I’ve always been uncomfortable with sight unseen milsurp purchases. I’ve been burned far too many times and will now only go to specific dealers that speak the same language as me. Reputation is everything if you want to go long distance as a dealer.

you guys are not getting it. there is no profit in bringing them to Canada .the market is small and to much Government B.S.

I would disagree. I'm sure there are lots of guys, like me, not into the snobbishness associated with "collector's item". We just want one to play with and shoot. It's still a Kar 98 from the Russian front, as far as I'm concerned.

Grizz

It's all just speculation right now. I'll believe it when and if we see them.

However, as mentioned by some of the US dealers in the last few years, none of them want to take a chance holding the bag with overpriced rifles due to the high asking price in Russia that are garbage. This includes RC G43 and K98.

I can just imagine the feedback on the forums if someone got a garbage RC K98 or G43 from a dealer. It would pretty much kill his sales. The risk may not be worth it selling junk. Safer to sell VG quality only.

A RC G43 would be a beautiful addition to the collection and Vopo reworks go for $1500 + on the EE.

How much are the Russians asking for these ? Do the importers buy them by the crate ?

Ok, I asked around and that Story about 5,000 RC Rifles coming to the USA and it is a complete fabrication and is 100% false.

It was ridiculous, like $2,000 to $2,500 each wholesale price! And with a low US Dollar to boot.

And something like $1.6 to $2 million lot of rifles that they won't part out into smaller lots.

The RC K98 and G43 Surplus Well has dried up......for good!

Thanks for checking around, JP.

I know there is some forgotton warehouse over in Russia that has stocks of Kar98ks and what not in it. What happened to the days of trading rifles for vodka ? :D

I think someone should bring in the picked over RC. Even if 20% are ####, there is a large market for bolts, stocks, barrels, etc.

I would pay $500 for an RC, and Ive got way better, but I still want and RC. And theres lots of poeple willing. Someone should honestly take a survey and gauge interest.

Well maybe WestRifle should start a Pre-Sale, if 800 people are willing to put a decent deposit on a $500.00 K98K rifle it would be worthwhile for him to bring in a container over from the Ukraine.

It would work, The PrePaid K98 Debit Card. :D

Oh lord, don't get me started now hehe :D.

If he is able to find me an early production year, a Gewehr 98m, or a Gewehr 98 to Kar98k conversion, I am certainly in.

Sounds very good JP.
By the way, i am in for a pre order k98 at 500$. These rifles may have been overlook but they might have been overlooked at a time when these rifle are still available in large numbers or for reason like damaged , arsenal repair or ugly looking stock ???
