Russian captures k98k's

796 to go, come on people show WestRifle you mean business !

Funny and insightful.

Many will say they'd buy one, but even if a few made a deposit, there'd be daily demands for an update on arrival time, and people bailing after a short time because for example: "My truck's transmission needs work"; or "My girlfriend's cat needs a hysterectomy".

RC's were widely available for about two years, and they sat there trickling out while people called them crap, and now they're a high demand item? I thought about it for a few microseconds and bought two. Same thing as with the $99 M213 - I bought two (and should have bought five), while folks studied the situation, hummed and hawed and then - poof, gone (and now going for about $200).

Right now, for a few months more perhaps, we have deals of a lifetime for SKS's and Mosins. In two years we'll have the same conversation. Act now, or forever hold your peace......

Maybe all the junk (the real crappy RC K98 and G43, rusted, pitted, unsafe to fire) were left behind to rot in the Russian Salt Mines.

Wouldn't the dealers have brought them in by now if it was profitable and worthwhile? Maybe it's not worth persuing after all.

It is possible they arent worth it. But someone could at least check. Even a big parts shipment would do well. How many people need stocks and bands, bolts, firing pins, etc.
What I do know is Id like a RC so I have a beat around mauser, one that can get wet or snowy without me freaking out.

Yeah k98k parts are drying up a bit and if there are alot of mismatched RC k98 in Canada people would just switch out worn/rusted parts for the better parts. IMO RC have alot of potential as hobby rifles that with a bit of work can be a beautiful collectors item. Full matching 98k are pretty much all bought up and RC can put a 98k in the average shooters safe.

Well...There is always the private find. Bought a DOU 43 last night. RC, based on the missing cleaning rod and screws. Other than that mint.. Mirror bore..deep blue, sling and blonde stock. WA's all intact:)

With RC's going for $600-800 on the EE, I'd be more than happy to pay westrifle $500 for one. One to keep forever and one to sell in ten years for a massive profit. Yeah some are pretty beat up, but RC's seen action in some of the biggest and most significant battles of WWII. That's something you can't say about an unissued safe queen. There's alot of history in them, that in time will be appreciated.

Russian Captures are $400-$500 tops.

Westrifle, when asking about these RC please make sure they dont have the terribe new import markings like the recent US ones do. Apparently defacing most of the exposed metal is now required by the Batf. Theres a thread and pics on gunboards

Westrifle, I am curious about the process of dealers aquiring surplus firearms from overseas. I am sure there are many factors such as what country you are importing from, shipping factors, and the variety of firearm, ect...but on average how long does the process take from the time a deal is made? I apologize for being off topic, but I am curious, thanks foreven attempting this venture for the shooting and collecting sport in Canada:)
