Ok, so where are the other 2 hidden on my Mauser? I looked under the rear sight. Nothing. I looked in the magazine. Still nothing. I'm going to check the butt storage compartment....oh wait, there is none.....

Intended that the members of the rifle squad would clean weapons together using the rod sections put together.
Rod was also used as a stacking hook.
Bayonet
The bayonet is probably Yugo. If you compare a K98 bayonet to a Yugo the Yugo has a tapered blade starting about one and a half inches from the crosspiece, and gradually comes to a point. German K98 bayonets don't taper until the last three to four inches from the tip.
Most Mausers were cleaned with the Cleaning Device Model 34.
It comes in a tin and includes a bore brush, and a chamber brush, pull through which is a linked aluminum chain, floorplate takedown tool, and oiler.
In any of the pictures of German soldiers cleaning their Mausers the cleaning rods are still in the guns and the aluminum linked chain in visible.

I can't believe I hadn't figured this out sooner... it's not a K98 bayonet. It's an M48 bayonet. I was so intent on degreasing and cleaning it I hadn't even realized that K98 bayonets don't have rings that go around the muzzle.... guess it's mine now. 
And it was $80!

I'm thinking it was a just a shipping mistake on Marstar's part. I'll give them a call tomorrow and clear it up.

No problems. The fellow apologized profusely and informed me that I was just to ship it back, return expenses to be refunded to my CC, and they will ship out the appropriate bayonet.
